Hello all,
I have a 97 Max GLE with the above code flashing. From my searches on this forum, this does not affect how the car runs. Can anyone tell me where this sensor is located? Is this an easy replacement?

Check www.oxygensensors.com for a replacement part. I would recommend an OEM harness equivalent replacement.

"0707" which points to the rear Oxygen Sensor.

Your Maxima has three Oxygen Sensors. Two are front sensors, mounted in
the Y-pipe between the exhaust manifolds and the Catalytic Converter. One
is a rear sensor, mounted in the exhaust pipe downstream of the Cat.

When both front Oxygen Sensors are operating normally the rear sensor serves only to keep tabs on the Catalytic Converter. That's the reason your engine is running well. The Engine Control Module (the computer) is not using the signal from the rear sensor to control engine management functions.

In a different thread SprintMax said he got a great price on a replacement factory Oxygen Sensor from Vester Nissan. He didn't give a location or contact information. Perhaps he was referring to Vester Nissan of Clinton NC, 1-800-572-2005. Also www.buyoxygensensors.com

 

I haven't changed this sensor yet, but after resetting the check engine light, it stays off for 30-100 miles. Does this mean the sensor is operating for a while then fails? Shouldn't it light up right away if faulty?

If the CEL comes back then replace the sensor, if it doesnt come back, don't worry about it.

 

It takes a while because you reset it, it will take 3-4 starts before it light up again, because right before you turn your key to start, the car runs a diagnostic check on all sensors.

 

OK, but the light does not come on until it has been driven for several miles...

Now, I have it in today for emissins inspection. Before bringing it in I reset the module, so the light was out. They can't check since there is no data in the module - it needs to be driven about 60 miles they say.

So I don't understand what is failing. Is the light coming on because the sensor is faulty or becaust there is an emissions problem? Would I get a different code if it were emmissions?

Most likely you have a faulty rear O2 sensor. If the CEL keeps posting the same code after you reset it - then its time to replace the sensor.

 

You need a new O2 sensor. No problem with emmisions when dealing with the rear heated O2 sensor.

It may be the cat, but odds are it's not, change the sensor and your CEL should go away.
