oil weight question...............

if i were t change oil weights, would there be any noticible difference in peformance/gas mileage/reliability?

I'm currently using Mobil 1 10w30. I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 5w30. I realize that most people switch to a thinner oil in the winter, and a thicker oil in the summer. That's why i'm wondering if a switch in weights will result in less lubrication/more wear.

on what 1FSTMAX said about the weights...

I don't think you'll see any noticeable improvement in performance/mileage...

you will notice zero difference, the reason you use 5w-30 is because it is less viscous at lower temps, once you are up to normal operating temp 5w-30 is the same viscocity as 10w-30

^^Exactly. They are both 30 weight oils at operating temp.

It never gets really cold here though. I could really just use 10w-30 all the time.
