Speaker setup .. ?
Actually, 95-99 maximas use 6-3/4" speakers. You might get a few 6.5's to fit in there as well if you look for ones with the prongs sticking out to hold the screws.
Putting 6x9's in is possible in the rear, but will require some custom cutting to enlarge the holes for the speakers.

6/5 separates are a little snug in the 4th gens. I have focal utopia 2-way separates and the huge magnet on the mid range leaves all sorts of marks and scratchs on my tinted windows. It ****es me off. Careful not to go to big in the front.
i've got kicker k65.2 (6 3/4) components up front. they fit right inside of the oem plastic basket with no problems. 6 1/2's would fit as well, but like JPMax stated, you'll have to make sure they've got tabs on the outside for mounting, or else you'll have to rig them up to make them fit.
I have Infinity Reference 652i 6.5" 2 way speakers. They fit perfect, no modification at all. Speakers are great, they provide really clear high high and deep base, I really like them. I don't have a box in the trunk and still sounds pretty good.
I just put in 4 new speakers in my car about a month ago. Pioneer TS-A1780R 4-way 6-3/4"
They sound great with my 4ch amp. (50wx4 rms)
$60 a pair at www.millionbuy.com

I have Infinity 6X9 in the back, some cutting, not too bad.

Without grilles and before tint

MUCH better sound, im getting infinitys up front soon with a 4ch amp, they should sound even better then they're not waaaay underpowered.
