Noise from the wheel...not axle or bearing.

this is on my gf's 99 max auto....she told me that she can hear a weird noise when she turns. so i checked it out cause i thought it was like the axle but it wasnt that. the noise that it made was totally different and the boots were not ripped but in perfect shape. I also checked maybe the tire was rubbing on the plastic but there were not spots that were made from the tire. The sound is weird like a deep "woo woo woo" LOL (that explains a lot) heheh but it is not clicking or grinding. It somewhat sounds when u have a bad spot on ur tire and u drive fast and u can hear the "woo woo woo" it is kinda like that but it makes that noise when i turn the wheel at like parkin lot speed. What could it be and what should i start checkin first? Thanks a lot.

First thing that comes to mind is the strut bearing. Those usually click or make like a wind up sound when truning at SLOW speeds.

The strut bearing would make sounds while actually "turning the steering wheel"... once the wheels have turned and the car is moving at the set radius, the bearing should not generate any noise...

Is the sound heard while turning the wheel, or while the car is turning.... (i.e. wheel already turned)... is the sound the same if you turn left or right, or just one direction..

He said it's while turning. He doesn't say whether it's during or after turning the steering wheel.

1) Defective tire
2) Wheel bearing

Rotate the tires front to back and see if it goes away. If it does, then it's your tire tread making the noise, if it's still there it's the bearing.

Just recently had a similar noise coming from my left front wheel. Sound only happened when the wheel was turned all the way left and I was moving slow. My mechanic checked it out and it was just the wheel/tire stop. He greased the 2 pieces and I have not heard the sound yet. Just my 2 cents.

i can hear a strange noise coming from my front wheels when i drive slowly (under 30mph) i can't describe, but it's not a constant noise, you can hear it at around 1 second intervals. any idea on what it could be?
