Ok guys I need some help on raising idle speed, my car idles at about 625-650 rpm, but when I'm in gear and on the brake (auto tranny), the rpm stay at 600 and sometimes when hot at around 575, the steering wheels starts to chake a little and it's annoying. I've heard there's a screw you rotate to adjust idle speed. How do I do this?

 

Try cleaning the throttle body first before attempting anything else. Motorvate has a great write-up. You can also try using seafoam. if ur car shuts off when u started u prob need to clean ur throttle body and its not that hard

 

I have the same prob...I've cleaned the throttle body, the IACV, changed the air filter, and ran a can of BG 44k ...and I still have tht problem. I still have to try changing the plugs and running seafoam to see if that helps.

PS: I have can of bg fuel injection system cleaner but im not sure how to use it. I know your supposed to feed it thru a hose in the engine, not sure which though.

 

My car doesn't shut off, it runs great. Just on really hot days it does this. The RPMs go a little to low when I'm on the brake and the steering wheel shakes a little. I have cleaned the TB and have new spark plugs. I just did a whole tune up like 2 months ago also. I'm sure there's a way of raing your RPM manually, at least that's what I've heard.

 

Well, the screw you're talking about is probly the screw from the ECU, but it should be at the right place if you didn't check for the CEL

 

its probalby the IAC screw, itll raise the idle minimally if you turn it counter clockwise, though you shouldnt have to adjust it in the first place, clean the EGR and TB

 

I'm thinking that it could be the cable that is not tight. It got two screws on both sides...and u can adjust it manually to tighten it or not. It's under the hood, by pulling it you can rev your engine

 

hold up, so if i reset the ECU and my idle changed and i have the same problem you have...i should try turning the ECU screw counter clock wise a bit more? would that raise the idle a bit? im gona try it and ill post back up if it solves MY problem..

 

just got back, took it for a test drive, he was right.. im happy i got rid of that ANOYING idle...

cept mine was under 500, about to stall lol..

All you have to do is turn the ecu screw VERY little counter clockwise... if you wanted u could start the car and adjust the idle while its on to your liking... thats what i did

BTW this isnt in the stickis (that i know of) can someone add this?

 

There was a little screw that allows you to adjust idle manually, all you need is a small head phillip screw driver (shorter is better) and a 8mm wrench to loose the lock nut. The best location to do this job is stand on the side of driver side fender, and the the screw is located on the LEFT of the throttle body. However, the right way to reset the idle RPM is required a diagnose scan computer to re-adjust the TPS @ it spec value =40. This will automatically recorrect your idle RPM problem assuming that there's NO vacuum leak and IACV are in good working condition. Hope this helps.

 

so turning the ecu screw affects the idle???

 

I really didn't know the ECU screw affect the idle speed, that could be it, about a month ago I got my CEL on and it turned out it was the cat converter so I replaced it and reset the light. Maybe I didn't turn it back all the way. Going to go try it. Thanks guys
