did front brakes now one sticking

i did my front brakes a few days ago. new pads and the rotors were turned for me by a friend who is a mechanic.

nothing out of the ordinary putting them on, all went fine or seemed to. took them out for a slow test drive and broke them in without incident.

now a 100 miles or so into them one of them is staying in contact with the rotor even when the brakes are not being applied. so i get kind of a rubbing/grinding noise especially when turning but even when going straight. a slight groove has already started to wear into the rotor now from whatever is going on.

anyone know what i may have messed up? could the caliper be shot?

Did you replace the pad spring clips? The clips that go into those tiny holes and spread the pads apart.

Take your wheels off and see if the top or bottom of one of the pads may be caught on the metal guide clips in the calipers.

Happened to me and I had to get a new rotor.

Also, make sure the sliding pins on the calipers were properly greased.

thanks. i will check those things. i did grease the sliding pins when i did them. are they easy to overgrease? better less than more? if so, i'll try taking some off.

The caliper pins should not be overgreased. They should move in and out easily not not have excursion limited by excess grease in the chamber. They are critical for proper caliper release. Definitely check to make sure you didn't over grease.
