Dome light not working, fuses ok, y?
Dome light not working, fuses ok, y?
Hi all!
Got a question for all you Maxima experts. I was adding footwell lights, and wanted to connect them to a light around the ignition, so that they'd come on when I unlock the car. However, something went wrong, because now the light around the ignition doesn't work, and the dome light only works in the "ON" position. I checked all the fuses under steerwing wheel and under the hood and they are all ok. Any ideas?

Dude it's the bulb. It's the way they sit in there. If they are just a little off the bulb doesn't work. Take you bulb out turn light on and put it back in real slow and it will come on. My system alway's knocks it out of place. ****es me off

The dome light and ignition light work off a ground signal, not a positive signal. Your wiring for the footwell lights is wrong.
The courtesy lights in our cars have +12 Volts at all time with no ground. Without the ground, current doesn't flow and the light never comes on. When you open the door, the door switch makes a connection to ground, current flows and the lights come on.
Wire your footwell lights the same way (+12 Volts and ground to the door switch) and everything should work correctly.

Thanks for all the input, but the problem remains. I ran footwell lights of the wires to the light around the ignition, the one that comes on with the dome light when you unlock the car. In the process I think I shorted out the relay that sends the signal to the light, because dome light works when I set the switch to "ON", but doesnt work in the middle position, door open or not. The light around ignition doesn't come on at all. And all this with new lights disconnected.
