drilling upper airbox for more airflow?

Stupid idea?

Just wondering what sticking a K&N universal airfilter down at the open foglight cover and snaking a tube up to the top-half of the airbox would do? Does the maf compensate for the extra airflow? Is this a cheap way to more power and/or better fuel economy or is it just plain stupid?

Just cut a hole in the lower air box... That's what I did. I cut out most of the lower air box on the fender side

Not if he puts a K&N filter on the end of the tube like he said he would.

I already have a hole in the lower half of the airbox, with tubing snaking over the lf wheelwell to the front foglight cover (removed). butt-dyno doesn't register much so I'm wondering if snaking the tube up to the top half of the airbox and sticking a K&N filter at the mouth of the existing tubing (screen door mesh in place currently ) would be of any benefit or pose any problems.

Really what I'm wondering is if the MAF compensates for the amount of air passing through it? If it does, wouldn't this improve gas mileage? If it doesn't, wouldn't this improve power at the risk of detonation (running lean)?

Waste of time. The engine is already getting as much air as it probably needs. Just get a cone or a drop in k&n and it's enough. You could just take out the WHOLE bottom half of the air box and secure the filter somehow. It sounds better than any cone I've heard yet.

any more comments re: maf? I already have a K&N panel filter and maybe a universal cone into the tophalf would make a difference?
