Speaking of Body Kits .......

Being a DIY type of guy, and not having the funds to order up a $1000+ kit, I'm working on my own. So far I have the airdam 80% done. I work at a truck body shop ( painter, for those who didn't already know ), and I rigged up an airdam from a leftover, broken, under-bumper driving light valance from a Volvo VN highway tractor. It had four light cutouts, but was cut down to have only two. I might fill the two remaining ones yet, I don't know. Maybe mesh? CAI duct? We'll see. Here are the preliminary pics of what I have so far:

I still have to work on the ends, lengthen them slightly, and mold it to the correct shape. I only want a simple kit, nothing too rice.

For side skirts, I have a pair off of a BMW that should work well, only they are too long. Quite similar to the Kaminari ones for our cars. They are foam like a Max rear spoiler, so I will have to cut them, mount them temporarily, then pull a mold from them and glass up two new pieces. I will have to do a rear valance from scratch. If it all turns out well, I will already have the molds for the sides and rear, and it would be easy to pull one from the airdam to have a complete set.
Sound interesting?
I'll update this when I make more progress......

I get alot of compliments on it. I like yours, also side skirts are universal(most) just u gotta cut em. check mine out, I did all of it on my own, the car is for sale now in mexico for 1500.

Been away from the .org for a bit then come back to see this? First you hate. Then, can't type. Anybody got matches? I feel a flame comming.........

Hector.....the kits is nice. I seen it. Should have invested more time and completed it. I told you about what you needed to do next @ cardomain.

The front air dam I see now is great! Wished you could have done it about two years ago.... I would have bought it. What grill style you have, the slant nose or the flat style front end? It'l look great with the flat style front end.

It's definately up to person on what style they like. I give props for the work Hector did, but the lines just don't match. Plus the way the corner comes in, up front, it makes the kit look like it's narrower than the car. Still, he took the time to do it and make it fit, and that deserves props.

If wylie c has the slant-nose front end, it's gonna look weird, too. All that matters is the finished product. Hector was doing ok with that front bumper on his car, but he needed side skirts to flair out the side of his car. I see what you guys are talking about though; the lines of his car. My car was ugly too until a found those side skirts......they do make a noticeable difference. If the side skirts didn't do Hectors car justice, the there isn't anything a little Bondo and a lot of sanding won't fix.

Sometimes constructive comments helps. Destructive ones won't. It keeps guys from making the impossible possible. Remember how we were looking to build the CAI, Sarin? Everybody was saying we have to build our own. Some even told us to get better cars! Even a few of the guys had built custom made ones. I say lets try different things. It may help us all in the long run, but SHARE THE KNOWLEGE!!!! Some would like to try what you did on their cars too.

It'll make you famous..............

Judging by the looks of Wylie-C's, I don't think it will look wierd at all. If anything, the car is going to look like it has a beefier front air dam compared to stock. For Hectors car, he does have side skirts...just not like the ones that come with the kits for our cars. I honestly like the stock styling of the SE, and that's why I haven't put a bodykit on. At the same time, I'm also looking to not give away what is coming up for my car too.

I only did it cuzz .well I dont know why.,. I guess cuzz it was cheap to do. That car is done for. Im selling it in mexico because it is registered there, mexican plates. It can not be easily registered in the us, would have to pass emissions (no kat, muffler, ecu). These cars cost around 800 dlls in mexico stock. I got 1 guy whos giving me 1200 , not bad because I did get this car for 400 +200 (engine). To import a car to mexicoi costs between 300 dlls to 500 dlls. So I guess its a fair price. I ended up getting a little mx3 wich i dont like much but oh well. Its got that engine swap that I dont even know it had o.0 I miss my maxima I miss the looks on car teams faces when they realized they had been smoked by a weird looking thing. I got my wagon already set to go, its being sold in mexico also (800 dlls). Very good engine and my se automatic tranny. Not a bad buy for them. I am looking into 4th gen maximas, I been seeing alot of these for sale around here. Ok, about my body kit...ee I dont know what to think, I liked it because it was the only maxima ever to have a nose like that but well its gone right? I saw a really nice 86 se manual for 800 but I went so broke after buying my 92 mx3 wich costed me 1000. I lost my job because I had no car. Im getting married this month to a girl. well sorry if my car offends anyone and sorry that this message is to long Ill still keep posting here once in a while cuzz I might end up digging up another maxima.

btw thanx to everyone that helped me with my car, even if it looks like a monster, you guys still supported a fellow second gen fanatic

Mine is an 85, so no slanted grille here. Sarin hit the nail on the head, a little beefier than stock, and comes out a bit closer to the end of the bumper. I still haven't had time to do any more to it, but maybe I will get a pic of it propped up under my bumper so you can see how it looks. If anyone knows what Gundam's side skirts look like, mine are very similar.

Also in the works, R31 skyline style headlights. I'm just waiting for a wrecked Volvo truck at work to snag the Valeo projectors from.

You might can!!! If it was the other one I wrecked! This new 320 I got is a BEAST! I took a VW Golf for a severe drag down the Autobahn this weekend! The wife was hollering! Had the car up to 180 kph (108 mph) and it still wanted to go! The only problem is that one of the wheels isn't balenced, so she vibrate badly around 120 to 150 kph. After 150...... smooth sailing! But you might can get me though for real, Sarin, providing you have a lot of power in the acceleration. I don't have much in that department......yet. But at top end.......ooohhh weeee!!!!!

Don't worry Hector....... when I get back to the States, I will began looking for another 86 Maxima as well! But only as a Project car and my personal set of wheels. The wifey dosen't want anything that old and she has grown fond of the 320..... I might....I say again, MIGHT....hunt for a 4th gen, providing the money is right.

Are you throwing me a challenge, Sarin? Cause you KNOW I won't back down! And remember, I own a German spec 320i ( no watered down American version) in a country where I can get all the performance parts without waiting! I am only look at dressing the car up at the moment, but if you want to, I'll work the motor! Cause for starters, I'll pick up a header for about 300 euros (roughly 350 dollars) and you'll will have problems up the wazoo with me! Plus I am down with the dealer who sold me the car; she knows what I want to do and her and her mechanic will hook me up with a discount........

But since you said it, and since you are my bro, A Straight 6 and a V6 battle is what we need. Besides, I wanna see how much you came up: remember when you couldn't handle Lil Nismo when she was terrorizing I-5? The only problem is getting the Beast (that my cars' new name) to the States without converting to American specs. I know I want all the saftey features (Laminated windshield, third brake light, proper passenger side mirror, dashboard conversion to MPH / gallons, and change of headlights), but I want to keep the performance up to what I want so I can do what I am about to do...........to you.

.........and then I have the perfect testing grounds: THE AUTOBAHN! Hope you have a good laser/radar detector, Sarin. Besides, you know I want Ian and his SC'd 4th gen. I know I won't beat him, but give him a good run.

Of course we never raced. You couldn't cause there was too much going on with your car at the time (remember the motor mounts?)........

Well, I'm glad you don't wanna race me. Me neither. The wife would have taken the check book, credit card, ATM card, then killed me! After she disposed of my mutilated body, then she'll take my car keys!

I think that is probably the best kit for the 2nd gen. All the other ones don't seem to match well IMHO.

Thats the Best kit around hands down for a 2nd Gen. I'm the proud owner of two 4th Gens, but have always loved the 2nd Gen. I once had a 85 Max and hope to get another sometime in the near future. Most of them around here are all rusted to heII. Seems like all the good ones are over 500+ miles away. You guys who have a clean 2nd Gen are lucky. Alot of these cars have seen their death by now.

By the way GundamWZero, Your ride reminds me of why I love these cars. Looks real nice! Thats what I'm aiming for in a 2nd Gen.
