I've been trying to find a gearshift lock (looking on the net for now), but the only companies that come up are either in Taiwan or in South Africa. I sent out several emails asking whether they have dealers here(NY-US), but no respones so far. So, does anyone know where one can get it? How much do they run? What specifically should one look for in a gearshift lock? How easy is it to install? How much of an eyesore are they?

Thanks a lot
Roman

Are you talking about the U shaped thing that goes around the pole part in a console mounted auto trany? If you are, they certainly detract from the look of the inside of the car. I've only seem them on a Camry, and that was ordered from SA. Good luck with your search.

Well, that's one of the types. I have also seen a built in lock that has a pin that goes in to block the gearshift handle. That should be a more estatic solution...

Check out Mul-T-Lock...

A company by the name of Mul-T-Lock makes gearshift locks. I bought my Max with one. It had the surrounding hardware that bolts to the floor and reaches up to the right side of the gear shifter, but it didn't have the collar. If you're in NYC I can refer to a Mul-T-Lock dealer. Dont know if they're on the web, never checked. Honestly I dont really like it, its kinda bulky and takes away from the smooth interior design of the Max. But if you want added protection this thing is pretty tuff!

When i bought my car it had multi-lock on it. I thought it was pretty nasty looking. It served no purpose cause I didn't have the key, so I took it out. I would buy a good alarm instead.

Thanks, where in NYC? I know that they come in different shapes, at least the ones I saw on the web, and some are actually quite nice (built-in). Do you know how much these are? How much for the install?

Thanks again

If you're in NYC....

Check out the Mul-T-Lock installer on Utica Ave. in Brooklyn. Its on Utica between Linden and Lenox, I believe. Can't miss it though, its on the same block as a car wash. Pretty big sign shouldn't be too hard. Or just call information. Check them out. If Mul-T-Lock is your thing.
