just got the car back from dealer last night

they tried to own me with the car.....after finding out the problem with the car was the blown MAF..thanks to BlackbirdVQ and others, i called up nissan and they towed the car from my house to the dealership which is like 10 minutes away and when i called them back around 4 they wanted $55 for the towing, and around $400 something for the MAF...i was like BULLSH!T!! i seriously dont understand what took so long for them to even pull the code..since when i called them they said they JUST pulled the code and figured out that it was the MAF. then i said i had the service + warranty and so towing was waived...parts and labor was waived....but they still charged me a $50 deductible...is that right? because all of the other times i went to go get something fixed i never payed a deductible before...i mean its a lot better then paying $500 but still...i wouldnt really want to have to pay for something that i wouldnt have to.

anyways i went outside and the mechanic was replacing the MAF out in the parking lot guess they ran outta room in the service pits? and i noticed he was taking the whole intake assembly with the airbox and all out just to get to the MAF...i know you dont need to take all of that out just to get the MAF out...its 2 screws, unplug, and its out...but whatever he's getting paid. i asked him how much the MAF was and he told me around $140. now that seems alot since BlackbirdVQ seems to have bought a couple at around $50 but all in all i got the car back...fixed...and i was flooring it the whole way home to
"teach" the ecu thanks to those who helped out

all the service should of have been done for free .. they ripped you off...
i have 100k extended warranty and all the services except maintenance have been done for free.. maf.. tranny.. some suspension..

you should always call 800 nissan usa first before doing any warranty service so.. you know all your rights and facts bout your warranty...

but glad that you are happy with the car now... not lets just wait till the tranny goes out.. j/k

I have the Nissan extended warranty, and it DOES have a $50 deductible...if they haven't charged you that before, you've been lucky.....I've been charged it once and not charged it once.

BTW he wasn't just replacing the MAF sensor, but the entire assembly (which I bought for $100), which is how it comes...this:

i dont see a point to do that...the assembly should be fine right? just replacing the MAF sensor would be more cost effective and faster but more power to them if they want to change the whole thing...well i feel relieved that i'm not the only one that paid a deductible for it. and irish44j where did you buy that for $100? just in case my MAF blows again...

Mine was bought at Passport Nissan in Alexandria, Va.
Yeah the assembly IS fine, but the dealer won't sell you the sensor by itself (unless you know someone who works there) in most cases....

also, it's frankly easier to install the entire maf assembly which simply requires basic tools than to do the sensor (which requires a special type of tool that most people don't own)...that, and the sensor by itself from what I've read costs about the same as the whole assembly.

Just be happy you don't have the 2k2-3, their MAF costs $300+ from what I've read.....

at least they have the option of taking a 2k1 MAF and just transferring the diode over and bam they got one for cheap...wish we had one we could do that to...maybe like a 300ZX MAF or an older gen max we could get for cheaper but yea ours is still cheaper then the 2k2-3 so i'm happy
