Sunroof Tinted... NOW IT RATTLES!!

<--- Not very happy.

I got my sunroof tinted finally ($40 out the door), but now when I hit a big bump, I hear a very slight rattle in the sunroof area. It sounds like it's coming from the end towards the back.

The guys at the shop couldn't figure it out, so there was nothing they could do.

I noticed there's some plastic covers which are screwed in, and thought maybe they were loose, but I tightened them as much as I could (w/out forcing them) and it didn't make a difference. It sounds almost as if a metal on metal noise, like a loose trim piece or a rod or something in the lining above where the sunshade retracts..

Any ideas?

I might just take it to Nissan and see what they think.

Maybe they knocked some of the alignment shims loose? I can't think of any way the tint itself could result in a rattle, they must have altered something else when they tinted it.

Or....maybe there's an unrelated problem and it was just coincidence that it occurred when you got the tint done.

I just got my S/r tinted and do not have any problems...

Alignment shims? Where are they? How do I inspect/fix them?

Thanks!

40$?

1. You got ripped off
2. The same person that tinted probably pushed/hit it and managed to get something loose as irish said.

Close the roof and push it up with your hand. Look for any movement/noise and try to locate.

Oh, also, it only makes noise when it's OPEN.

When it's closed, it doesn't have any noticable rattle..

BTW, I have had no stereo for ~9 months now, so trust me, I am DAMN good at finding rattles, but I think because of the headliner, it is really hard to find it..

Unless they have some sort of special sunroof tint, I was always told that it is a very bad idea to tint a sunroof, because of shrinkage and cracking and such.

You were misinformed in a way... Dual pane glass (thermal) should not be tinted. Plexiglass should not be tinted. The max is regular glass.. not sure if it's even laminated on the sunroof.

98% of all cars are tintable completely.

The only trick to tinting the Maxima is that it has a lot of little factory "tint dots" in the corners and edges. Basically it's little black dots painted onto the inside of the window to give the edges that faded tint look. When you tint the glass, the tint film has to be glued to the glass, and it doesn't stick to those spots very well even with the glue. What they did on mine was use some extra special glue around the tint dots. That is why they recommend professionally tinting a car like the Maxima. My civic didn't have this problem, and could have easily been self-tinted, had I wanted to bother with it.

Any other ideas on this??
