Exhaust manifold gasket... DIY?

Just wondering how many of you have replaced your exhaust manifold gasket and how hard is it.

I have the Haynes manual and it doesn't seem to cover it. THis is for a 93 GXE.

TIA!

First time I did them, it took me 12 hours for the front manifold. second time, it took me about 6 for both manifolds.

for the front, you WILL have to remove the alternator and AC compressor bracket, so just do it and get it out of the way. You don't have to remove the AC hoses, just unbolt the compressor and swing it out of the way.

for the manifold itself, it's not hard- you just have to get all the toher stuff out of the way so you can work on the manifold.

Cool, thanks for the replies!

(sorry I didn't see this sooner... the e-mail notification must not have worked).

I might just have a local shop do it or something. I'm tired of all the extra CO2 in the cabin and for what could take me ~15 hours (I work slow).... I would rather pay somebody to mess with it, LOL!

Thanks again!

The email hasn't worked on here in months...

As for the job, expect to pay $3-400 per side for a shop to do it.. that's minimum.

no, its just always loud and I get *some* fumes in the car if the windows are up.

Manifold gasket was the diagnosis I got from my old repair shop. I said no since thats not why I had brought them the car, and I thought maybe I could live with it. That was a year ago... i'm kinda tired of the exhaust fumes! lol

no its more than seconds, its takes good 5-10 minutes to go away, and still u can hear it, but barely.. its just very annoying, makes the car sound like **** if u dont warm it up. im lookin at doin the pacesetter headers, but im nervous about sound, i have custom duals set up with warpspeed y pipe and high flow cat and custum catback and its kinda loud now, i think headers will make it really loud. has anyone done headers on vg, and if u have do u recommend upgrading them?

well manb if you have the Y pipe there is some fittment issues w/ the headers. and you have to expect the headers to be louder w/ that much air traveling down.
