Ok, I got my wsp y pipe put on at my local import shop yesterday. But now my car is making all kinds of noises. When I press on the gas, I hear this terrible rattling and vibration. It almost sounds like it is coming from behind the dash! Anyone else heard or had this problem?? The rattling is really bad, I cant even block it out with the radio. What is going on? Oh and the noise the pipe makes its self sounds a little weird. It's hard to explain, but almost like a squeaking sound. The guys at the shop said my exhaust is in really poor shape and in a couple months I will need to replace everything from the cats back or it will start leaking. But this doesn't answer for the terrible rattling that is happening! Thanks for you help

Take it to a muffler shop and have them weld everything.
People at import shops are usually pretty shady.

sounds like you've got rattling at the oem bracket which is located where the y connects to the cat; when I first installed mine, there was no clearance at this bracket; I had to loosen the front two flanges and mover the pipe towards the driver's side in the rear. You may have to move it in the other direction.

problems with WSP y-pipe

If you can't figure this out, Don't hesitate to call and talk to Dallas, he's quite bright in trouble shooting installs. Remember we can't help you if you don't let us know that there is a problem. We have NOT had any significant problems with fit on the VQ pipe. The above posters have good ideas, check it out.

I just installed mine this am. My guess is that your noise is generated from the bracket in front of the Cat. The OEM pipe bolted to this braket ad the WSP does not have a bolt for this attachment. If the pipe wasn't adjusted as the above posters stated, it could bang into the bracket or other pieces of metal. Climb under there and try to rattle the pipe to figure it out.

you get a CAI for your car yet. I going to get a WSP y-pipe pretty soon, hope you can work things out with that rattle.
Thanks Jon

Seem like your import shop did a bad job. You can try going back to them and tell them to correct it. I'm sure they won't charge you for it(if they do, go off on them like a madman) if they didn't do the install right. Or like the others said, bring to a muffler shop. I brought mine to a local import shop to install it too, but they did a good job. Then again, I know the owner of the shop.

How hard is to install a Y-pipe!

I meen it's only 8 bolts and 2 sensors, so how could a shop screw up? {BTW this not a question but I comment}. My guess is since your stock exaust is on it's way out the shorter/stiffer flex portion of the y-pipe is putting additional strain/stress on your tired oem exaust system.

Suggestion..

You say the noises happen when you press on the gas.. Try parking it and have someone press on the gas while you climb under and check it out, this will help you determine the source of the rattle/noises... I know bad exaust parts can lead to all kinds of retarted noises, performance Y's are generally louder then stock pipes anyways. Maybe the guys installing it screwed something up, who knows...

Sorry, I do not mean to talk down to you, nor sound like your mother, but remember, those pipes *do* get hot! And they aren't teflon-coated, either. If you touch them when they're hot, your skin is going to burn and stick. If you are going to rattle them around manually, you might want to wear a thick pair of leather gloves... Good luck.

I went back to the import shop today and had them try to adjust the y pipe so it doesn't rattle. After a while of playing with it, still no luck. He blamed it on the design of the pipe. I explained to him that no one has ever had this problem before, but he wouldn't buy it. (Always the product or custumer's fault, right??) He said it's rattling against the cat bracket. He couldn't pull it over enough off it. The only other thing I think of that it would be is he said the rubber pieces that hold the exhaust up are shot and the exhaust is really loose. That's about the only thing else I can think of. Any other suggestions?? I'm going to a muffler shop to get more opinions. Thanks for your help! ~Steve

Did they try this? If not, suggest it to the muffler shop and don't go back to that place.
