Like probmx said, they're rear fog lights. They come on UK, AU, and NZ spec maximas. They're supposed to help people see your car better from behind in the rain/fog. I know in the UK only one lamp actually has a socket and bulb. I think in either NZ or AU they dont have any bulbs in there but still have the lense for it.

They are for the rear foglights on UK(Euro?) Australian and New Zealand Max's. On NZ and AU Maximas they are just red lenses covering blanked off holes..see my cardomain page for a close up view...

Also note the Nissan badge in the middle of the trunk lid, which some of the later NZ gen3 maximas had too. Its not a NZ pic as we didnt have those interior or exterior trim colors.
