transmission cooler lines

just a quick Q.

any one know what size the auto matic transmission cooler lines are for an 87?

i'd like to get a seperate transmission cooler and extend the life if the fluid a little more but i cant find what size the hose is and i am sure if i take them off theyre going to rip or disentigrate like my lower fuel line did.

Might check with max88q. He has a hayden 404 tranny cooler. I'm not sure of the line sizes, but they are probably going to be pretty generic.

Looks like it'll have everything you need to hook it up. I notice it has clamps etc. I say order it test it out, if it doesn't work, you can go grab new hose at the local parts store.

Well what you could do is take the core with you when you get the hose. You'll have a reference with you.

it should be around 3/8" I.D., which is pretty universal as tranny cooler line goes.. an engine oil cooler... that'd be another matter entirely..

that works, last time I even grabbed a FMIC off a turbo Starion (and that thing is huge)..

1 oil cooler that's readily available is from the 89 (AE92 series) corolla GT-S..

however, if you're looking more along the line of what Summit offered, the 90-93 Accord actually got those as P/S fluid cooler, finned.

eh, i'd rather have something new unless i could find something that had a fan and sensor on it that operated on its own, so unless i could get a good haul in a junk yard i want something new.

i did the transmission fluid today, forst time i have ever done it but i have only put 10,000 on it since i bought it a year or so ago, our transmissions are every 30,000 for the autos, it hadnt been done ever i dont think. it came out pitch black and i have a jack *** co-worker telling me i could kill the transmission by putting new fluid in it and i kinda thought to my self i'm going to screw it for sure running old fluid in it (i work in a lube shop so i do this stuff alot)

i want a cooler so i can extend the life a couple of miles more

which reminds me when I changed the tranny oil in my other car... it has the viscosity of water, it just pours out within seconds... don't think it's been replaced either.. pitch black too.. Even warm 75w90 won't have that viscosity..

75/90 A.K.A. GL5 wont get black unless its been in there and abused hard core for about a decade, fords run standard GL5 in the front and rear differentals and the first service date is 100,000 miles unless you tow alot then its about 60,000 miles, it should only be used in maunal transmissions, if you have GL5 in your auto tranny then somethings a little....not right.

but yea on the manual thered be a drainplug and a check plug, you undo both when you exchange it, put the drain plug in and fill through the check plug untill its about full up to the bottom of the check plug.

ATF goes black pretty quick but the stuff from my car was like dark matter black, you could have used it as pen ink
