Battery Rerlocation?
Battery Rerlocation?
I was wondering how hard it would be to do this in my 5th gen. I will be maiking a custom cold air setup and needed the extra space. I figure I just need an adapter to hook the stock terminal to the new wiring and find a very good place to ground in the trunk. Am I correct? Also what size gauge? Thanks.

i have dual batteries in my 3rd gen..the one in the trunk is in a box that is AIR TIGHT made out of 5/8" particleboard..i ran a vent hose (3/8" O.D) from the box through a hole in the spare tire well to vent the hydrogen to the outside of the car..The battery is a marine battery, so it has wing nuts on the posts, but you could fab up some top post terminals in a similar way, use 2 ga wire to connect them to 3/8" BRASS bolts that run through the side of the box ..use a rubber washer on the inside of the box and a brass washer on the outside, and use 1 brass nut on the outside of the box on each bolt to hold the bolts in place..I'm pretty sure i just confused you, cause i think i just confused myself..so heres what you should have..on the inside of the box, you have a top post battery with 2 short 2ga cables with a top post terminal on one end of each and a cable lug with a 3/8" hole on the other end..the bolt is fed through the lug, then a rubber washer is fed onto the bolt, then the bolt is put through the hole in the box..then you put a brass washer on the bolt (on the outside of the box) and thread a brass nut on as tight as you can get it..the bolts must be long enough to leave about 3/4" or greater space on the outside of the nut so you can fasten all the cables you might decide to put on there..If i had any pics I would show ya what mine looks like, but unfortunately i dont..Hopefully you're back on track now, so I'll continue..run a cable of adequate size to the front of the car and figure out a way to either bolt this in place of the cable you have at present, or just cut the old terminal off your present cable and solder a lug on there and bolt them together with a brass nut/bolt and wrap the connection with a lot of electrical tape and secure it out of the way..then you need to connect the next cable size up from what you ran from front to back to your engine ground and bolt it to the chassis after scraping off some paint around where it will bolt to, and use the same size cable that you used here in the trunk..its up to you to find a good ground there..Or you could just run 2 cables of the same size from front to back for ground and power..If I lost you again and you cant figure it out..get a cai from Place Racing..
Oh, I used 4 ga for my lead since I just added on, but you should use nothing lighter than 2 ga..2 ga is fine if you dont have and dont plan to run a stereo at the same time, but if you want to have system as well, i'd go with 1/0 or even 2/0 or 3/0
