man, dont even have to get under the car... I jacked it up just a little, wheel not even off the ground. I got alittle oil on my pinkie putting the plug back in.. thats about it. couldnt be easier.. I think the filter is alittle too exposed but I've never heard of anyone having one hit so....

Nissans are generally easy to change the oil on. Try that on a Honda, the filter is on the back of the engine (towards the firewall) and sloped down, so you are bound to pour hot oil on the exhaust (and yourself) while crawling underneath your (mandatory) jacked-up car. I've given up on changing the oil on the Honda as the local dealer does it in 30 min for $18.95. I've also noticed that the Maxima has higher ground clearance than comparable cars, making it easier to slide an oil drain pan underneath. I just wish that Nissan used larger oil filters.

You can bypass the jacking up part if you remove the plastic guard from the right fender well, and turn the wheels to the far right.
