nope b/c i got a headlight harness upgrade....if you get high wattage bulbs (higher than stock) the sockets will eventually melt...make sure you get an upgrade say from apc or something

And do they sell any for a 2nd gen. max. Yes I know Im in the wrong forum but all I need to ask about is either in the 3rd gen. or fourth gen. forums. and hardly anybody goes in the 1st and 2nd gen. forum. help.

hehe....you can post in any forum so don't worry about location...just look at me ...we're all hear to learn...

now to the question...the harness will run you about $50....you can get them for any bulb type...so if your headlights is 9004 (which i think it is) you just order an upgrade harness for 9004 bulb types...

100/80w

Is 100/80w what melted them? I'm in the process of buying some as we speak. Are they too hot? What wattage should we use?

ThankZ

we chatted about

the bulbs thing last week and a couple of good ideas came from the post. I was asking then (last week) if there was anything else that was brighter than what piaa offers in the 65/45 wattage (stock)--and a couple of guys mentioned the sylvania bulbs. I personally think the piaa's are alright but perhaps the sylvania's are better--especially the new ones and they run stock too.
the 100/80 are going to burn even perhaps the headlight covers if they are plastic...so you gotta be careful...
i'd go with the syvlanias for the best bang for the buck. My gf's altima has the sylvania (stock--came with car) and it is wonderful...in fact I am a bit jealous of the 2000 altima...has a lot of cool stuff in it except for the 3.0vq.
=)

Sylvannia

So get the sylvannia 65/45 rather than Xenon 100/80 ? Are the sylvannia's HID?

Well personally the sylvanias on my car work better. I have a 2nd gen. max and I bought 100/80 bulbs , first were hyper whites , the second ones were neon blue( they had a blue and a purple background look), and the third ones were, hypeer whites. And got fried all times, after a while of going to the junk yard for the used harnesses, they knew what I wanted, hehe. I Spent alot of money on those bulbs. The sylvanias arent really hid but they do have the blue look on the bulb. I can see better with those. Im planning on buying new headlight housings for my car so I can see even better, my old ones are black faded inside. Yeah but I can see the road better with the sylvanias better than the 40 dollar a pair ones. I think because the sylvania bulbs arent so blue.

APC makes a harness upgrade ... about $65. Also available for the 9004, H4 bulb styles. I'm running 100 watt PIAA Super Plasmas from Japan w/ the wire upgrade

Whats ups with all this harness frying stuff?? I have had 80/100 9004's and 85w H-3's in my '96 Max since December/99. Stock wiring too! No problems. Now I am not saying that a wiring upgrade is bad. It is better, and safer, but I have used 80/100 bulbs in a few cars with stock wiring and have yet to have a problem. Just call me lucky!

it depends on the bulb itself. Yours may not be a true 80/100 watt bulb (I doubt it is..)

You may be right Rice.... But I used to have those crappy World Lights 80/100 superwhites, and then my buddy gave me a pair of "who knows what brand" Xenon ones, and these are definately brighter. Did a side by side comparison when I put them in. Another thing, that same buddy put Hella 80/100 Superwhites in his '97 Max with the stock harness. No problem....... I just dont get it. Nissan makes quality stuff, why all the problems with the wiring?

Pepboys should carry them for about $15/20 each.

Get the Sylvania ExtraVision. They are much brighter and light the road better. Also they are stock wattage so you don't have to worry about melting anything.

Don't order the harness from carparts.com. . . I ordered mine a little over a month ago and still haven't got it. . . They keep saying it is backordered and stuff and I get new ship dates like everyother day via email. . . It is really annoying

I don't think it's a major problem, but it's something to look out for. I upgraded my wiring harness to handle the Japan-spec Super Plasmas.. better to be safe than sorry.. a fawked up wiring harness can be a pain in the butt to replace, especially if your lights fry in the middle of the night. At that time, I didn't have my jobber account to purchase real HIDs. If I did, I would've spent my money on the HIDs rather than ****ing around with the wanna-be-HIDs
