Anyone know how to change O2 sensors?
Anyone know how to change O2 sensors?
Hey guys, I recently got an SES light and the code I pulled said there was an O2 heater malfunction. First of all will replacing the O2 sensor fix this and if so how do I go about doing it? Second I called the dealership and they said they would replace both O2 sensors before the cat for around $500. This seems a bit expensive to me, please help and let me know what you'll think I should do.

I replaced both rear bank O2's myself and it was pretty easy. Most of my time was going out and getting a proper 22MM open ended wrench to get at the O2 in the bend of the front bank Y pipe. You HAVE to make sure the pipe is ICE cold, like not driven in a LONG time (I left mine sit 24 hours). You will risk stripping the pipe threads if you do. Also dont forget to get anti-seaze grease and get the threads before replacing the sensor. Total time was about 1.5 hours or so.
Dealer wants 500 because they want 3 hours labor for two O2 replacements (thats what they quoted me
) and about 150 an O2. You can get the O2 from DaveB for about 108. Since you did not give us a code, or which O2 went out...this is the best info I can give you....
Good Luck!
The code I got was a P0135, and that is the bank 1 sensor 1 if I am not mistaken. I also called Firestone today and they said they would replace both front O2 sensors for $330. Should I replace them myself and save some trouble and time or should i take it in?
