actually i just need to know the easiest and most effective way of removing the old trim. i was thinking of just using a blow dryer to soften the glue.

hm, im assuming you have one of the aluminum kits that just sticks on? if so, you cant remove the old trim, its a 'real' dash kit, no glue etc. you have to swap the actual pieces out for the black ones found on other models (gxe/se) thats what i am in the process of at least. hope this helps

If the brushed aluminum kit is like most of the other aftermarket kits, it will just stick over the existing wood trim/black trim pieces. If it is a full replacement kit (unlikely), then you have to remove each piece of trim (not difficult) and replace with the aluminum equivalent.

See this link, it takes you through removal of the center console, shifter trim, etc. etc. Once you have the stereo/A/C unit out, it should be pretty straightforward to get all the smaller pieces off.

after carefully looking at the wood trim in my car it doesn't look like its the "real" wood trim kit. i think the previous owner got the stealership to install it. besides do 98 se's even come with wood trim to begin with??

if it is the paste on wood trim would i still just paste the aluminum over top it?

thanx for all the tips fellas

njmodi, i dont think it can stick to the original wood trim, because its glossy and wont stick right it will start peeling after so long. thats what ive heard at least

I have the fake wood and when I get my aluminum kit I plan on getting some black touch up paint and going around the edges of the stock kit so I don't see any wood on the sides of the kit. Teedious, but I think it's the easiest way to do it.

i just recently changed my woodtrim to "chrome". you can't take the woodtrim off b/c that's what the dash is made of. i took the trim which is pretty easy and sanded it down. then i painted and clear coated it. it took me the entire day to do it b/c i had to let the paint dry. but it is a very easy process. i will post up pics soon.
