Manual tranny swap and VLSD

I have an auto AE with the VLSD.

Local junk yards have manual trannies with and without the VLSD. My question is if I already have the VLSD can I get a non AE transmission or is the VLSD part of the tranny? (I'm asking because I found a bunch of trannies localy but none with the VLSD)

The VLSD is in the transmission. If you get a non lsd manual you will not have a lsd. How many miles are on your auto would you sell it. I want to swap my non auto to LSD auto. I found others close to me. DaveB told me all I need is the driveshafts for it to work.

Oh man... how come our tranny can't be that easy? that sucks. On my friend's car all he had to do was hook up some tiny metal box with four springs to it and he got LSD.

if your talking about a differential thats because our cars are not RWD.

VLSD is a physical mechanical unit that is part of the transmission.

Yep, I have an real AE with VLSD. IT has 33K miles on it but I can't seem to find a tranny localy with from a 20th yet. I would sell my auto tranny as I would have no use for it.

Can you give me more details on the drive shafts? I thought I need new ones from any manual tranny car? is this correct.

you would need driveshafts for the manual tranny cause you can't use the auto's. If I bought your tranny I would need the your driveshafts cause mine doesn't have the VLSD. I believe DaveB said just the drivers side. I won't the keep the auto but I want a VLSD so I am looking for one. Then I can send the AE one if bought from you the NRH trannsmissions for rework.

PhantomGrip ?? No thanx I won't put on of these into a Maxima... doesn't fit right and I'm not going to grind down spider gears inside the diff to make this piece of cheap metal fit inside my very expensive tranny. Drivers side axle seal is alot bigger vs the pass side axle seal on the tranny- that is a simple give away to people who don't know what else to look for on a VLSD tranny. I dont think auto AEs had VLSD, I will dig this up but I'm sure they aint got it- useless as some 3.0L autos can't even spin tires off the line. You need a VLSD diff and the rear tranny case to convert a 5spd non lsd to a lsd unit one. I'm doing a 6spd conversion on MJKs car next weekend- hes got a 00 Auto SE. I'ma take some pics and post up a HOW to swap one.

i am absolutely positive all AE's have VLSD. Either that, or all the AE autos I've seen are from canada.

why does spinning tires off the line have to do with whether or not a maxima is equipped with VLSD? Tires are a huge factor and i'm positive any 3.0L maxima can spin tires off the line from torque alone (i would know, I drove a stock one for 3 years)

I thought you had a phantom grip (or were you just "testing it out" as is says in your cardomain). I guess like you said, it doesnt fit right. BTW, when I saw it yeah it did look cheap and made me wonder why my friend paid $300 for his. BTW, he is mounting his to the 2 liter tranny eater.

If I find that vlsd is manual only, looks like I got a good lawsuit. My owners manual says I got it as well.

It has a locking diff. It might be a VLSD but it has a LSD. good luck finding a used manual LSD tranny. They are slim to none. I know I am getting ahead but if you sell the tranny how much would you be asking for it.

I know, so far I have not been able to find one, I am curious of the 6sp sway noted above. If I sold my tranny I would take any resonable offer or trade for other max parts, as it would not do me any good. I'll be in St Paul in Sept for business but don't think I'll have the work done by then.
