Im back. Bought a 2k2 6spd, few questions

Well after my 98 5 spd got stolen I spent 12 weeks finding the perfect max. Flew down to Charlotte, NC from CT and drove back. Overall a great experience, the car is great and fun to drive...

Now its mod time. I just ordered a Frankencar intake setup (had this on my old max) and now I'm thinking about the Frankencar catback. I looked for some reviews and opinions in the forums but I couldnt find any old posts. Can anyone tell me how they like this catback setup? Thanks

Wouldn't recommend doing an intake - MAF issues are very common on the VQ35. Enjoy the new ride!

Thanks for the tip. I know about that issue but I'll take my chances. I really enjoy an intake setup...

Thanks, updated my profile.

This is the max I bought:

Are the MAF issues with intakes really that common? Is it not even worth getting an intake??

sometimes they can be more trouble than they are worth.. a lot of orgers have had problems with the MAF yet some say they have absolutely no trouble..i think its kind of a 50/50 thing..but if you're set on getting one, then frankencar or berk is a good choice

to answer your question about the catback - the posts I have read about it said it's quiet as stock at idle and sounds deep but not too loud at WOT. From the pics, it LOOKS really nice, and supposedly it is pretty heavy compared to the OEM exhaust.

that's my 2 cents about what I've read - I plan to order it after the winter.

Glad to hear a lot of you guys are having good luck w/ your intakes. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to pick one up myself but when reading on the org the % who had issues seems pretty high. 50% sound fair? :dunno:

Congrats on your purchase! I don't know how long you were searching, but it took me several months to find my loaded 6sp. Does yours have the LSD? It seems very few of the 6sp cars have it, and even less people understand how important it is. I'm going to have one installed, just not sure where or when. If you happen to be into exhaust mods I have a brand new, in the box, y-pipe from Cattman performance (one of the best companies for stuff for Max's) for sale. I purchased Cattman's headers and don't need the y-pipe. Since we are practically neighbors,(I live in Rocky Hill) it would be easy to set up meeting place. I also purchased a Jim Wolf Tech "pop" charger on Cattman's recomendation. He used to sell the Place Racing CAI, but stopped carring them due to fitment and lack of performance issues. Check out Wolf's web site for dyno graphs. Maybe we'll meet at the next group meeting!

I wouldn't buy anything from Franken. He didn't help me when my intake broke so all my business goes to cattman. I have the 02 6spd lsd with a lighened Jim Wolf flywheel & clutch, UR racing pulley, place racing motor mounts, MY OWN INTAKE w/ a K&N, y-pipe, hi flow cat, b-pipe and exhaust. All of which I bought from cattman, Jim Wolf and custom maxima. Franken lost all that business over a 20 cent mounting bracket.

Took me about 3 months to find my car...Couldnt find anything in the NE that was in good shape for a reasonable price. I'd definitely be interested in that y-pipe man. Is it brand new or used? Let me know, I could come pick it up.

Then you shouldn't have left that 20 ft patch of rubber in his driveway.

Congrats on the new car!

Blackout tape. I'm pretty sure they have it at PepBoys and stores like that...

Trimbrite.com

Go to products... then click on specialty products. It's part number T-9005 at the bottom of the page. I bought it at auto zone. Most car places have it.
