Need help fast: New y-pipe and code P0160

I am at 49910 miles and my ses light just went on (p0160) rear bank o2 sensor. I just had my y-pipe installed two weeks ago. I see it is under a TSB for my 2k1, and I am covered till 50k, but have I voided my warranty? and is the y-pipe to blame?

Any help is appreciated. Man if it is not one thing.....

Wow I am the first to have this problem! I am about to drop the car off at the dealer and I would like to not be taken for a ride if you know what I mean.

you voided the warranty. you will have to pay for the repair since your mod is directly related to the problem

While the Y-Pipe would void the warranty on the O2 sensor, you can always try what everyone else does....

Remove the Y-Pipe and reinstall the stock setup. Take the car into the dealer and play stupid. Then put the Y-Pipe back on.

The only thing is... the sensor isn't that expensive. So if you are paying to have the pipe installed/removed, you may come out cheaper to buy another sensor and install it yourself.

Wow, what a PITA! I just put on my y-pipe last weekend w/ two other buddies. There was this one rusted bolt that was a major PITA.

I had the same problem Link. My SES light was on with P0420 code which was covered in the TSB. I went in and got it fixed on Friday, then Saturday I put my y-pipe on.

Good luck w/ this.

Thanks for the help guys! I dropped it off about 20 min ago.

Is this going to keep happening with the O2S, or was it just time for it to go? I had my ECU reflashed about 15k ago for the same problem. I can't wait for the quote from the Stealership. Looks like I now have something to do this weekend.

hey link I had that a few months after the y pipe was put on I changed the sensor (redwire coming from sensor) and the light stayed on....the car was running horribly so I knew after that it had to be the maf. It was a steady downhill turn for it. No power loss when light first came on, and after a few weeks it got to be undrivable.

Did you take it in for service, or just replace the sensor? I was going to go and get my car before they look at it and put the service fee cash towards the new o2 sensor. He said it might be something else causing the sensor to throw the code (BS?). I hope it is not the MAF. How hard was it to replace and how did you know which one to replace?

Thanks again for the help!

I got to do the front brakes soon too. At least I don't have to pay for service!

i had P0140 a few months back. i read over the tsb and took it into the dealer with the cattman y pipe with header wrap. i had 41k and they replaced both secondary o2 sensors along with the ecu flash covered under extended nissan warranty. some dealers would try to void it but they dont get anything for sending you out the door. my dealer just filed their claim under my warranty was were reimbursed for parts and appropriate labor.

I'm in the same problem too with my Cattman Y-pipe. I'm going to buy a new o2 sensor soon and replace it myself.

Well the stealership told me exactly what I thought. Rear 02 sensor bank 2 needs replace. $233 for parts and labor. Please tell me that is way overpriced! They also quoted me $129 to resurface the front rotors. I can get new ones for that price. Told them not to do anything and now the SES light is out. I'm guessing it will come back soon. I can't help but wonder if stalling the other day had something to do with the light coming on (notice not long after). I haven't done that in I don't know how long.

Thanks much!

thats about right for parts and labour for the sensor.

get your rotors turned somewhere else. cheapest way it to remove them yourself and take them somewhere.

Is it that hard to do the sensor yourself? Anyone point me to a write-up? I thought I saw one, but can't remember who had it.

Thanks!
