What is the best compresion ratio for a turbo on a 4th gen

i'm wanting to have my 99 max have at least 300hp before i put the turbo on her. I've been reading up and have been seeing 8.5 to 9.0 to 1 compression for a turbo. The maximas aready have higher then that. Would it hurt if i putt a stroker kit on her that raised the compresion to 11 to 1? And another question whats are some boost levels that people are running now to make about 450 to 500hp? thanks in advance.

um if you want to go turbo dont raise the compression any higher than stock unless you want to run race gas all the time

to get 450 to 500 hp youll need roughly 12 to 15psi

A 300hp NA setup will make a real nightmare if you try to add boost onto that. To get to 300, you would need to do some things like big cams w/ overlap that and high compression would work against you in a FI setup.

Upped compression will make it even more dangerous to boost and almost undrivable on pump gas. You'd likely have to retard timing tons to keep the motor from detonating too much and letting go. Ideally 9:1 or so compression will allow you to run more boost and 11:1 is borderline insanity for FI.

We put down 301whp at only 7psi with a stock internal '97 Auto. You can get 330-350whp pretty easily ~9-10psi w/ stock internals. That's enough for a 12 second car and more than a FWD street platform can really handle.

Guys have seen a bit over 400whp on stock internals at 10-11psi but I don't think anybody runs that daily. With low compression internals I'd say 14-15psi is enough to get close to 450whp w/ the right setup.

Why do people always rag on FWD vehicles. They just don't have the proper suspension to handle torque steer and wheel hop.

I just read a freakin huge thread on www.my350z.org about this. Theres argument is very scientific. LOL

You can run high compression and boost with proper tuning and proper gas. The fastest 350z on there is running 11:5:1 and 9 lbs. -10 lbs. of boost.

They also talked about piston shape, flat, domed, and dished. Our pistons are slightly dished which keeps the spark in the middle of the piston which is good. They also talked about with lower compression that the cylinder can be filled with more air since the dome is greater. But I really don't see how, it s on mm's of space. Also with lower compression pistons it is easier to run on street gas because you have less chance of pre-detonation.

with tuning, race gas, and lots of money maximas could fly... but running a 11.5:1 CR and turbo is not something to daily drive by any means.

FWD even with the best suspension for torque steer and wheel hop will never be as good a RWD for launch traction. It does have its advantages and does not make a maxima useless for racing but FWD does not help for traction off the line at all.

With a 9:1 CR built engine and a pretty big turbo you would be more than fast enough. If you are asking if you can put in a 3.3 stroker then yeah you could and it would be plenty fast NA with the 11:1 CR but you will also need to lower the CR back down for turbo. If you are going to build your engine you might as well go all the way (in whichever way you are going) while you have it apart.
