before the vg-t swap my 5-speed would get nearly 400 miles to the tank. the gxe gets somewhere around 300 or so. the gxe is pretty bad on gas mileage but probably just because it needs some tuning up.

What do you mean 200 miles to a tank?? Don't we have an 18.5 gallon tank?? If you only get 200 miles, that is like 10-11 mpg! If I go until pretty much empty I get around 400 miles per gallon, plus that is driving pretty hard. This equates to around 23 mpg or so...

What's the deal?

I get about 420 per tank driving highway, and 300 around town. But I pretty sure my tank isn't 18.5 gallon because its not the original tank. Its like 16 gallon on my car

16-20 mpg city driving, 26-30 mpg highway driving, depending on time of year, weather conditions, needing a long warmup time in winter, using the A/C in summer, etc., etc.

Trying to measure mileage by the tank doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

i get 22 mpg pretty consistently with 75% highway driving (spirited highway driving ). that's about 320-340 miles to a tank. but if i take it easy on the highway, i can bump it up to ~24 mpg

Depending on the style of driving for the week, I range from 300-360 a tank usually and mine is a 93 5spd (25ish mpg the last time I checked). I'm not sure Nissan's specs for the tank but when I get way below empty with the light on I only fill it back up with 14.5 tops. I'm going to estimate it's not bigger than 15 in my car. My car could probably stand a tune-up but there are some electrical issues right now with misfiring that I need to track down... Too much driving to work not enough time to fix it.

i think we have a huge reserve in our cars. Cuz if i fill up after my fuel light turns on ive never gone over 16 gall fill up. but the manual says 18.5 for the VE (yes i keep my manual by my computer.) im thinking about testing this out on my current tank.... just gunna put a couple gallons in a tank in my trunk and drive until she dies (i know thats not good for the car, i just wanna see)

I get around 24 mpg on the highway, but that's crusing at ~80mph. Not sure on miles per tank, I think its in the mid 300's. In the city I get around 200 miles per tank.

i average about 260 - 280 per tank and when i fill up it ussually only takes 15 to 16 gallons

if i took a road trip all highway at 60mph in 5th i bet it would go 350 to a tank

i have run out of gas in my car about 3 times since ive had it and ill put a gallon in it from a small gas can and then drive to the station and it would only take maybe 15.5 gallons so i cant see my tank beeing that big but the thing is when i replaced my fuel pump there was a solid inch below the strianer so im thinking you could run out of gas with 1 to 2 gallons still at the bottom of the tank but thats just a guess

wow!! 400 miles??? thats crazy!!

i'm about in the 200-300 range...and i think i have a 15 gallon tank 2, but maybe its bc i dont wait till its too low before i fill it up again.

what parts do i need to change in order to get the best possible gass mileage???

I get around 25-26 MPG per fillup and drive 90% on the interstate (200 mile commute to work roundtrip 4 days a week ) On top of that my tranny is going and it slips in OD going up hills, so I am constantly switching OD on and off...

poor mileage

I just bought my third iteration of the 3.0 qv v6. This one is a 2001 Maxima GLE with automatic. The first was a 86 300zx with a five speed. The second was a 97 maxima se with a five speed.

This 2001 gle is giving very poor mileage, averaging about 21mpg at 65mph all highway conditions. I purchased it last month as a "certified " used car from the local Nissan dealer. the service engine soon came on and have an appointment tomorrow. This dealer is know for lousy service and the began to blow me off when I made the appointment. The service person told me this MPG was reasonable to expect and that there was NO comparison to other vehicles mentioned.

Am I being silly? this is the same engine as the others, same displacement, et. al. I get the sense that the dealer is not going to honor their warranty. 21mgp at a steady 65 mph using premium fuel is significantly poor. I have put a total of 500,000 miles on these other two vehicles and experienced approx. 30mpg with them both. All forums I browse, owners seem to agree with me.

Comments are much appreciated.

first of all the engines are not the same. Where in the world did you find a 91 GLE? they didn't exist! GXE perhaps? The 91 and the 86Z both have VG engines and the 97 has a VQ engine. They are not the same engines other than the displacement and them being internal combustion V6's made by Nissan. There could be a number of reasons why your car gets poor gas mileage. Bad 02 sensor, holes in exhaust, needs tuneup ie. plugs/wires cap and rotor? Age etc...

that makes more sense. Then disregard the wires cap and rotor parts since your car doesn't have those. add possible bad injectors. with 40k on it that sounds fishy to me.

do you have any suggestions as how to deal with the dealer? I have never had any service at a Nissan dealer. The local dealer has a very bad rep. on service. I feel they will deny problems. Am only taking it to them because it is on warranty.

Again, I thank you.

bad dealers that "certify" a vehicle? Did you know this before you bought the car from them? I would take it to a mechanic that you trust and have them look it over for you.

I've never 'squeeze-clicked', so I never use the full capacity of the tank. I get around 330 miles with 14 gallons, which is 75/25 percent highway/city. On one trip I got 379 miles with 14 gallons.

I picked up the 01 from Serafini Nissan in Vestal NY yesterday afternoon. They claim the car showed no codes and is running fine. They wanted to charge me for one half hour diagnosis. Thier "fix" for my problem of high gas consumption and SES light was to tighten the filler cap. They actually replaced the filler cap. I asked about the mileage again and they indicated that because the car showed no codes, that it was performing as expected. Blamed fuel consumption on my driving A/C use, bad gas, et.al. I neglected to indicate that upon purchasing the vehicle I immediatly installed a K and N air filter. I did this because it was such a great benefit to my 97' Maxima 5sp. I had not driven this car long enough without the K and N to be able to tell any difference. I plan to monitor the fuel consumption very closely and return to the dealer if it continues to be statistically significant. Oh, and with this dealers attitude, READ MY WARRANTY.

with my 92 VE i am getting about 21-25.5 mpg with the bulk of it being in the city.

so i usually fill up when my light comes on, so about 14.4 gallons is the average fill up.

so i get 350+ miles for about 14.4 gallons.

Brian

PS: that is with a newer O2 sensor and WSP Y-pipe, resonator removed on intake, and a rusted through muffler, 215/60/15's inflated to 42psi and rear spoiler removed(extra unneeded drag).

the soulution of a new O2 sensor keeps coming up, the dealers analysis of the car revealed no such defect they are thus unwilling to replace it. anyone know how much this cost to have done?? comments and input are much appreciated.

Bad O2
160 Street, 240 Highway.

New O2
240 Street, 350ish highway.

Note: I punch it every chance I get without spinning the tires. If i didn't i'd probubly get 300 for street.

When I took a trip down to Florida from Indiana, I got 485 miles on a full tank!! I was soo impressed. Thats on a '93 GXE with 150k miles with a bad 02 sensor, holes in the exhaust and no cat. converter. When I do daily driving, I'm lucky to hit 300 miles for a full tank.
