Timing belt questions
Timing belt questions
1) Do you really need a holder to remove the cam pulley or can you improvise with a screwdriver, strap wrench or other?
2) Do you really an installer to install the cam/crank seals or can you improvise or make your own?
Thx for replies

Ummm, with all due respect... if you have to ask these questions, you should probably let a mechanic handle it.
the proper answer is no... just do whatever's necessary. when I pull the cam sprockets loose, I do it before removing the timing belt. I just leave a breaker bar on the crank pulley and pop the cam bolts loose, then snug them up so the pulleys don't wobble while I'm removing the belt.
for the seals, I just use big sockets the same size, or the old seal I pried out with a hammer. never had a problem.
