I just bought my Maxima, and found out it has a cracked front engine mount. Can anyone recommend a place to get a new one for fairly cheap, (I'm pretty poor, at least in the money dept.)?

Also, what is a reasonable price for a mechanic to ask to do this job, (keep in mind I live in San Francisco where everything is a little more expensive).

If your 'handy'. Put a juck uner ur engine, take our ur mount off. Remove the rubber and fill it with polyurethane.

 

I'm not 'handy' when it comes to cars, I've always used public transit, and just recently had my second child, so I have to learn to become handy as I'm not financially well off, and will have to do as many repairs on my own as possible.

Is this a fairly easy job with the help of a mechanically knowledgable friend?

Basically your telling me to fix the mount rather than replace it? If so, will that be a temporary fix or can I expect it to last?

 

it should last as long as the other ones did, if not longer

you can take it off and fill it but your car will be out of comission while you fill it and wait for it to cure - maybe a couple days

I'd recommend getting one from a junkyard. Then you could fill it or just put it in and hope its in good condition

i was going to mention you, but you beat me to it. =)

 

The job isn't hard to do- the bolts are just on there REALLY tight sometimes.

tools.. hmmm, jack, jackstands, 17mm socket and breaker bar, 17mm wrench (or another socket and ratchet), and a 10mm ratchet/socket to remove the splash shields under the car.

that's about it.
if I just change the front mount, it takes me 15-20 minutes.. usually the rear engine mount is shot as well, and it makes it a 1 hour job since the rear mount is much harder to get to...

 

Took my 94 to a mechanic last year who said all 4 of my mounts were shot and it cost me $650. Had to take it back because the car had real bad vibrations running through it and after a couple of days the mechanic said they got the wrong engine mounts from Nissan. I don't know ho many different mounts there might be but I suspect he got VE mounts for my VG engine.

 

dunno how that would work since the VE mounts don't line up perfectly to the VG.. they would have had to crowbar them into place.
