Faulty oil pump???

Was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with the oil pump on the DOHC ve30de motor. 6months ago I swapped a used jap motor w/30k and good VTC's. but I had to use my old oil pump because the jap one didn't work well. The last month or so I have been getting the oil light to turn on for a few secs during a cold start. I hear a very slight ticking sound, which I have been told is normal lifter noise. I am a little worried of my oil pressure and don't want my VTC's to go bad because I have a ****ty oil pump. If anyone has any ideas I could use all the help I can get. An oil pump for the DOHC would be about $400 because its all part of the front cover.....Also I'm am leaking oil it seems from the pan but it is right by the main pulley on the bottom. Not sure if it is the pan or my friend said it could be from a bad camshaft seal or somethin. ANY HELP is appreciated!

um have you checked your oil pressure sensor to make sure its good because ive never heard or an oil pump going out on a VE

i would hook up a oil pressure gauge and check the pressure on startup that way
