ok guys, my main question is, i am planning on upgrading to a 02-03 maxima.
i want to do my suspension first. what do you guys recomend?
i know jic's are really good, but very expensive.
what other kinds of suspension set ups do you guys recomend on the 5th gens?
i would like feedbacks on how the ride is, how stiff, pretty much for daily driving. thanx guys.

Hey Peter....I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. And now I ended up with a 2k2. And i'll tell ya, its one hell of an upgrade. The 3.5 is a monster compared to the 3.0 in my old 96.....

i'm currently running Eibachs/Blues (it came with the car) FSTB and addco RSB. And 245/40/18 summer tires on my 2k2. This setup is nowhere near how my old 96 use to handle. I'm planning to uprgade my Eibachs/Blues to some D2 racing coilovers, but I still think it won't handle as well as my 96 did. But you'll definitely want to add suspension mods to your 5.5 gen first because this thing handles like a freakin boat man!

Well good luck....

aahha@! thanx doode. yeah, im really thinking about an upgrade. just needed to know what is the best mods for the 5th gens. one question, howd you know my name? haha. anyways.....thinking about jic's flt? not as expensive as i thought, for my first mod, then intake, ypipe, catback. maybe sc.
but when i thought about it, with all that money i was thinking about dumping on the new max, what if i just get another sc for my car and straight up build my motor and tranny? what do you think? i would save more money that way, but the only downfall is that it will still be a 4th gen.

I met you at one of the meet's....It was in Irvine at the tapioca express...I still had my 4th gen at that time. I dont think u saw my car tho.....But

I'd say go with the D2 racing coilovers. I placed an order this morning at urban import for 825 shipped....This looks to be a really good coilover....But I wouldn't know until i get them installed...

From what I know, they don't offer an SC for the 5.5 gen. And I dont think they ever will (correct me if i am wrong)....But i'd say go with the 5th gen and stick with it. I was planning to fix up my 4th gen to the max. I had like 130k on my old motor with all the bolt ons...and was ready to swap in a fresh motor with a MEVI/DE-K manifold with an ECU....But I know speaking from experience, a bolt on 4th gen will NEVER feel like a stock 2k2 6spd. the 3.5 is just so much torqueir. I could just punch it in 4th gear and reach 80mph like nothing. In my old 96 I couldn't exactly do it as quick as the 2k2. I think the only way U can compare a 2k2 and a 4th gen...is if the 4th gen is boosted.

oh wow, you have a good memory. anyways.....huhmm.....so no boost for the 5.5 huh? that sucks! do you have any idea what a 5.5 with all the bolt ons would do in a 1/4 mile? and those coilovers you mentioned, is that the whole kit? shocks and everything? good price. let me know when you get it installed. i would love to ride on your car with it. really thinking about getting the 02-03's. let me know thanx.

I'm pretty sure a bolt on 6spd (intake, headers, exhaust, ecu) will run mid 13s with a good driver. I mean SR20DEN ran 13.1 with slicks minus the ECU but plus the secret sauce mod. But he also stated that hes pretty positive he can pull a 12.9 with some bigger slicks & more practice. Thats simply amazing for n/a 6spd to be running 12s without cams or ECU. So in conclusion, i'd give a rough estimate of 13.5 on street tires with bolt ons for a 6spd.

Yes the D2's i have mentioned is a full coilover kit just like JIC FLTA2. They come with front pillow ball mounts and camber plates. 36 way adjustable dampening and 0-4 inches of height adjusting. I am not exactly sure when the GD will end but Mike at urban imports said he already has 3 pplz on the list. So I am gonna assume by next week another 3 will jump in, completing the GD....Then another week to get it shipped to us. So in total about another 2-3 weeks until i receive these coilovers. I'll let u know when I get them and let you ride in it if u ever wanna meet up.

I love my suspension. I have modded kyb agx 4th gen struts, and eibach pro kit (also 4th gen) on my 5.5gen. This is a somewhat rare setup, but it's not so hard to do from what i understand (I had jeff of maximum tuning do it, it's just the fronts that have to be modded). Cattman sells them already modded.

I have put on around 8-10k on this suspension, and it's been riding great, no problems whatsoever. It's a very tight ride, you feel literally anything. That's the way i like it, and it handles MUCH better then stock se suspension. The drop is reasonable, the front is a touch higher then the back, but that's supposed to be normal. It's hardly noticable.
