How is it everyone is blowing their MAFs so much. I have heard people incorrectly/over oil their aftermarket intakes, but it seems to be too much of an epidemic.

that's what i think my problem is. i had a WR foam filter on there and i kept finding filter oil in the MAFS tube and on the sensor. i have since bought a K&N style filter and cleaned the MAFS with elec. parts cleaner but i still have a slight hesitation at around 5K rpm, so i'm assuming i damaged the element. the problem was much worse before the cleaning but it's still not feeling right.

so, is a 5th gen MAFS the fix for us 5.5 genners? can any nissan dealership get the updated MAFS and does any other work have to be done to make the new MAFS fit on a 3.5? is there any performance deficiency on a 3.5 with a 3.0 MAFS?

I wrote that. It was a while ago. Another org. member paid like $450 just for the sensor and had a Nissan dealer install it. That's were "You go ripped off BIG-TIME" comes from.

BlackBIRDVQ told me that if you have a 2k and get the updated MAF, you have to get nissan to recalibrate your ECU. Is that true?

5th MAF here, if you just want the sensor part itself then 22680-AD210, that is the updated new part. That does NOT come with the tube- I have 2 spare MAFs just in case my updated one goes out. And yes if you want your car runing like a champ and pick up a few extra MPG get the new MAF ECU program. FYI for people in IL avoid Bill Kay Nissan in Downers Grove when your MAF goes out.... mine went out around my work after doing some testing on my car - aka some shake down runs. I drove a loaner car from work there and was quoted 556 bux for a MAF and its gotta be ordered. I drove 30 miles to Woodfield Nissan and got it there- they stock almost any part possible. That is where I get all my stuff from. I won't disclose the prices I pay for my parts. But I used to be an employee.

but considering that you Auto-x the car and also have SO MANY engine mods, you probably blow the MAF much easier than most people......

you can reset the ECU by unplugging the battery for about an hour and then plugging it back in.

But I did not reset my ECU after MAF change and the car runs perfect...

Unpluging the battery don't recalibrate the ECU for the new MAF. There is a new ECU program that needs to be uploaded in order for the new MAF to function 100% right- I noticed more power and greatly increased MPG via this update. Only a Nissan dealer can update the ECU with a new program- for the updated MAF.

blackbird, what did they charge u for the ECU update? Nissan told me that resetting ECU is pointless and requires to be reset by their computer.

I used to work at this Nissan dealer that hooks me up. My friends who work there charge like 30 bux for any of my Max buddies to get their ECU reprogrammed. New software is downloaded from Nissan, via the internet into the Consult II scan tool. Then it gets uploaded into you ECU. It takes about 15-20 min to reprogram the ECU. New MAF program applies to all 00-01 Maximas with the new updated MAF. The car WILL run with the old program, but it will NOT be performing to its full potential- you should notice a good 3-4MPG increase in gas mileage, snappier throttle response, and better midrange power with the new ECU program with the updated MAF.
