suspension rattle

I am getting rattling from my PS rear suspension. I dont know what it is. The gland pack nut is on there super tight. And when I reach in and shake the spring I cannot simulate the noise. When I go over small bumps I get a rattle coming from the passenger side rear, it has been doing this ever since I changed out the struts (and getting worse)...but none of the other ones do this. When I replaced the struts I only replaced them and nothing else...when I put them back together I used what was left of my bump stops and dust covers. Anyway has anyone had a similar problem?

I had this problem, but it was in the front. It was a broken/cracked mounting plate.

Carson,

My car did this as well after a shop had replaced the strut cartridges
in the rear of my 86 wagon.

What it turned out to be was the cap nut over the strut cartridge that
was coming loose creating a rattle.

I'd take the car back and they tighten it up, but it would make noise
again after a week's time. This went on for about a month when I finally
said "enough!".

I called the dealer and explained the scenario to a tech there and he
asked me if the shop used locktite on the caps... the shop said no...
the shop backed the nut off enough to expose some threads, applied
locktite and tightened'er down again, that was over two years ago and
no rattle since!

Yeah, sounds like a loose bolt back there. I have one the nuts for my struts won't tighten all the way because the whole insert rotates. So the little washers under it rattle because they aren't completely tight.

ok, it sounds like something I will just have to fix once I pull the entire suspension out....I will get under it again probably tomorrow night and try to find exactaly where it is coming from...but like I said I cannot simulate the sound by shaking the spring on or jumping on the rear bumper.
