I drive a 1997 Maxima GXE with about 86,000 miles on it. Recently, my front driver's side wheel has been making a kind of "whu-whu-whu" sound when driving. Forgive the silly sounding description, but it sounds rotational, if that makes any sense. My first thought was that it was something specific to the tire or wheel being off balance or having something stuck, but I recently rotated my tires, and the noise continues to come from the same location. In addition, I recently (about 3 months ago), had my CV boots replaced while the car was in the shop for a fuel pump replacement. In consulting with some friends, it seems that a likely culprit is the wheel bearing. Is there an easy way to check this? If anyone has any other ideas what it could be, I'd love to hear them.
