First Off I'd like to ask.
Is and ECM and an ECU the same thing?
I've heard both of these term but never sure if they were refering to the same part.

I drive a 95 GXE Auto Maxima and I have the starting problem like many others I've seen on the forums.

It talks all about it in this TSB:

Now I was wondering If I could use say a 96 or 97 ECM in my car?
I would try and find a 95 on in a junkyard but that wouldn't really help me cause the problem wasn't fixed until vehicles built after Dec. 10th 1996.
Is a 96 or 97 ECM compatible with my 95?

Could I get an Aftermarket ECM rather than havta get one through a dealership?
Does anyone know how much for a replacement 95 OEM ECM and/or aftermarket ECM?

 

ECM and ECU mean the same thing.

Years ago the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) designated that ECU was to be used as the proper term for the engine computer.

 

Does anyone one else have answers to any of my other questions???

 

I've been looking for ECU and have an automatic ECU for sale its from a 1997 maxima gxe. Im looking because they made a mistake (I have a 5speed) and they installed an automatic ECU or ECM (engine control module or unit) same thing its on the right side of the gas pedal. I will sell you mine if interested ill email & PM you. The problem ive researched asking and reading in posts that the difference is that the automatic and manual 5speed have different rev limits and like my problem I get a check engine light stating that gives me an ECU codes 0504 (Automatic Transmission Control Unit Signal) & 0804 (Automatic Transmission Control Unit signal to ECU) so I need a 5speed ECU asap. Look for my email & PM. In prior posts they answered that years 95-98 are interchangeable but automatic and 5speed are not so you need to make sure its from an automatic needs automatic ECU or 5speed needs manual ECU.
