Ticking sound in my `98

After my car has been driven for a while and I shut it off I hear a tick, tick, tick sound coming from under the hood. This seems to happen on other cars too but this is the first one that I have owned that did this. I read some info in the FAQ's about this problem but it states that it only applies to the 95-96 models. What is causing this. Thanks for input

As all the metal parts under there cool off, they contract. This causes the ticking.

Worry not, ignorant n00b.

Im not really worried mr. super moderatorius lol. I am just curious. I thought it might be the coming from the exhaust that branches off the engine.

yeah sounds like nothing to be concerned about. now, if it sounded like a clock ticking, then it could be a bomb and that might be something to be concerned about ya know!!!!!

I've never driven a car that didn't do this.

LOL! Nooooo....
What is that small box-like thing underneath the car on the drivers side? I also wonder if its pressure build up in the EVAP hose.

That "small box-like thing" is the carbon canister, it is a plastic box with carbon in it for the Evap System.

I've listened to the 'tick, tick, tick' sound when I parked my car in my garage for years and years and years, it is the hot metal components cooling down and contracting.

No Problem!

That's the EVAP canister releasing pressure that's built up in the tank while driving. The sound comes from the "small box-like thing" just behind the driver's side rear wheelwell.
