Camber bolts really work?
Camber bolts really work?
ok, just got my suspension installed. i have camber bolts for our cars, and took it to this place, and he said that the camber bolt wont help at all.
He said he has to like drill some hole bigger so he can move the arm back and forth to where he needs to move it to in order to actually fix the camber.
is that true? or is he lying to me?

the toe is what actually destroys the inner edge of your tires because the tire is actually dragging when you are driving straight. Have him correct the toe really soon or else you will be changing tires every month. The camber bolts do make a difference, they replace the top strut knuckle bolts and push the whole assembly into spec more or less.
You need to run away from that shop and never look back.
Camber bolts are smaller than the holes in the strut. That way the hole doesnt need to be enlarged. They have an eccentric profile so the camber changes as you rotate the bolt.
I swear to god, this damn forum makes my head hurt sometimes.

Camber bolts are not smaller than the holes in the strut. The holes in my strut fit the holes on the spindle exactly. If the camber bolts were smaller your car would never be aligned. The stress on that bolt is immense. I had to drill a larger hole in my bottom strut hole (both sides) and then use the bolt in the camber kit. The bolt doesnt actually handle all the stress. All it does is provide pressure so the sides of the spindle grab the lips on the strut. Take your wheel off and you'll see.
You cant enlarge the bolt hole in the spindle. Just the strut. This way the bottom of the strut moves in and out and your camber angle is adjusted.
One word of advice. I had to get it re-aligned every 6 months because it would move out of place.
One year my strut went bad so I got 2 new struts. Instead of drilling holes in them I went to the body shop and got the guy to hook the car up on a rack. He pulled the front end at the hub until everything was straight. Even with the lowering springs.
Never had a problem with alignment after that.
That sounded retarded. If you still dont understand how it works email me. Paredline@aol.com. Or you can post. Sorry if I confused you

Anybody consider the fact that not all camber/crash bolts are designed and look the same? Ingalls and Eibach are eccentric with the tab. Progress' and some SpecProd's have grooves. Other SpecProd's also have tabs. Nissan is straight flat but avail in different diam's. You can enlarge the upper spindle hole, lower spindle hole, strutmount slot on top, etc.
Sorry for the rant but camber's my lifeblood. I own 12 front bolts, customized Stillen camber plates, and a small box full of alignment receipts.
I am confused as well. I dont know what you have to enlarge...
All i know is that unless your dropping the car more than 2 inches, u DONT need camber bolts. I am dropped on 2 inches about with my ground controls and i get my alignment done perfectly. I DID however purchase some "specialty product" (generic) camber bolts one time, and i had to get my car realined about 5 times untill i realized (within a month) that the camber bolts i got kept slipping and my steering wheel would flop to one side or the other. So, i dont know if its because i had generic ones or what, but i have heard the same thing happening with the ingalls. I just wanted to have a perfect alignment, but to be honest i took em off, and i got a perfect allignment with all passing greens. No problems since..
As for the bolts, for some YES they work. I have not heard anything bad about the eibach bolts. Well i have never really heard anything bad about eibach products, so there u go lol...
As for the stillen camber plates... those work really good if you got 400 bucks to dish out
