New MAF ... 4 vs. 5 Pins on connector

I just replaced my MAF yesterday with the updated one for my 2K SE. I notice the new Sensor has 5 pins on the connector socket. My old on had 4. Does anyone know the siginificance or was that the reason my old one was working so poorly?

For the 2000-2001, the 5th pin doesn't matter. It's for the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor, however the 5.0 Gen Max's have a seperate IAT from the MAF, whereas the 5.5 Gen Max's have it built into the MAF.

Thanks for the info. I just had to know. I don't like "black boxes".
