Stock shifter WAY too high!!!

I hate the shifter on my 96 se 5speed! I don't want a short throw shifter because I've heard there is some nochyness involved. I like the way the stock shifter shifts, I just hate how it looks!

Has anyone tried cutting their stock shifter an inch or two? I'm thinking if I do that then I have to get the shifter rethreaded, and to do that I have to remove it from the car which I DO NOT want to do.

I'm thinking about leaving it in the car and just cutting the top about 2" and super glueing a new handle to the shifter.

I drove my brothers 93 Lexus SC300 with a 2jz gte (supra tt) motor swap in it and the shifter feels so low and sporty.

OH and by the way, that lex pulls like a raped ape! full bpu mods trapping 122mph!!

People have done this before, I even thought about it myself until I got an aftermarket shift ****. Just use a die grinder with a cutoff wheel....

Anyway, I wouldn't "superglue" a shift **** on. You could always just get one that uses set screws and it will hold it in place fine. Mine uses set screws and I haven't had a problem with it in the 6 months I've had it.

a friend of mine took the shifter in his old, crappy tercel and cut it, but he cut it out of the middle then welded the original top back on. it saves you having to get your shifter rethreaded, but i guess you would still have to take it out of the car.

I cut almost 3" off mine with a hack saw. now it looks proper height. I bought an aftermarket **** with rubber shims and screws, no need for re-threading, it works great. Crazy glue and the original **** might work too.

****..i still left mine in the car..i put a sheet around so i would not get shavings everywhere adn i cut mine as far as i could cause it started to curve. I also tooka dremel and sanded down the knubs on the stick. Everyone that has the stock shifter in that drives me car askes if it is a short shifter.....it looks 1000x better and the shifts are alittl shorter. not tons htough.
