Torn CV boot- no clink- just replace and fill boot?
All-
Had the driver's side front wheel off, and noticed the outboard CV boot was torn. Don't know how long it's been torn, but my guess is less than a few weeks/500 miles. Rolled the windows down, and absolutely no clinking or noise of any kind, driving straight or wheel turned to either extreme. Just had a state inspection and had the "pros" at Jiffy Lube tell me all it needs is a new boot and grease fill. From my own inspection, doesn't look like there's a lot of grease left, but no dirt or other crud in there.
Any suggestions either way?

Thanks for the response! That's good to hear- but, I had jumped the gun and already ordered (and received) the whole axle from raxles. Didn't think about replacing just the boot until this weekend, when I've got the time to do the work. I'm debating whether to pick up the CV boot kit, or just replace the whole deal- seems like it will be an easier job to swap out the axle, and I won't need to worry about any damage that might have occurred or any dirt that'a in there without cleaning the whole thing out.
it is definitely an easier job replacing the whole axle. i did my driver's side boot, and it was a pain in the ***! you have to seperate the joint , and it is a very messy job. i did the passenger side axle a while after that, and it was so much less work. just watch out for that seal when you stick it back in. plus, you really have no way of knowing if contaminants have gotten into the joint. i say do the whole axle!
