Can you put a LSD in a non LSD 5spd. Reason I ask is caus eit's so hard to find a 01 VLSD AE 5 spd I was just thinking to get a regular one.

Yes, but you need to buy new axles at a cost of around $900. It's not just a drop in replacement.

Yes...but i would do what dixit did and get a cheap *** 4th gen tranny and axels and have someone build you a custom 50/50 differential and cryo treat everything. If you have someone who can do the work i would recomend it over trying to hunt down AE ****. Its a pain the the a$s, believe me i know..

Just talked to Dixit and he said that it doesn't matter which tranny 4th or 5th you can take the standard diff from the non-lsd 5spd and send it out and custom made into a locking lsd.

yeah you can do it with either, but if you ever break an axel or anything it will cost a fortune to get a new one if its from a VLSD maxima tranny. Its damn near impossible to find those axels used, or at least it was when i was looking...

I need to duble check my diffs, but I'm pretty sure the Nismo diff for a open diff FWD SR20 tranny will work in a Maxima tranny- they are smiliar internally. If thats the case then you can use your stock axles too.

The bearing race on the transmission housing is different for the VLSD. It's much larger. The standard diff has a normal size bearing race. So if you want to use a Nissan OEM VLSD you'll need a new housing. It may be easier to install an aftermarket LSD.

I got my car from Canada and I think it has a VLSD. When one wheel is spun (on a lift) the other goes in the same direction. Is that correct for a LSD?
