what should i do with my max trade in or no?
ok so i bought my 99 se automatic about 5 or so months ago i have various mods done but i now went by the dealer that i got it from and boom there is another 99 but this time its a se-l in silver and 5spd for the same price i got mine for o yea and about 30,000 less miles! i really really want to trade mine in for it because i wanted a 5spd to begin with but they will only give me 5500 for trade in on my car and they will take $7800 thats a differnce of $2300 i dont have. so i was thinking if i trade it in i could take the remainder $2300 and add it to the final price of the car so that it would pay off the old loan but add the amount to the new cars final price. so the new car totally would be $10,100 which is a bit to high of a payment for me to be paying right now with a newborn. my delema is should i advertise and take the chance that as soon as my car is sold that the se-l will be sold and ill be stuck without a car until i find another one around here or should i trade in and take the loss and be broke all the time which is not cool for mods but...if i do trade in ill have a good start with my intake and y pipe the rest can come later i suppose cause a 5spd is hella faster than mine and i love going to the track. i just dont know what i should do somone give me an opinion, also maybe somone around wi wants to take a look my ride and see if they feel like shelling out 7K for a nice ride

damn that's a hell of a deal for that 99 se-l. taxachusetts dealers seem to be so much more expensive.
why don't you put a deposit down with that dealer and have them hold it, sell your car quickly or just do the trade and make up the money. that's still a decent deal. i was in a similar situation and almost bought a 5 spd max and was going to sell my auto, but i ultimately decided to wait mine out for a while and save my money. i'm pretty happy with mine overall and figure i can get a nicer and newer car in a year or two. goodluck

well it wouldnt be a $2300 loan that money would be added to the total price of the car because i still have around 7K left to pay on my car yet. they give me 5500 for it and that screws me with $1500 left to pay on mine, i dont have that so id have to add it to the new car which bumps the price up to $9300 then theres the $2300 differnce in price there add that and its actually a total of $11,600 idk what i was adding up before but thats actually the price so i think im gonna wait and sell my car private party and hope that its still avaliable once mine is sold and that if its not that theres one similar around WI for a good deal so i can jump on it so come on SOMEBODY BUY MY CAR!!
The price of mods
Well, not only do dealers usually do you in with trade-ins, but I'll bet those mods won't help. If you can take the time to put the car back to OEM spec, that may save you some $$ if the dealer hasn't seen it yet. How long has the SE-L been on the lot? If you really, really want that SE-L, see if you can put down a nice sizeable deposit for them to hold it for you for a month or so. Then push like mad to sell your current max on the open market. You'll get a better price than by trading it in.
One other thing -- will your wife be driving the car at all, and with the baby? Driving with a baby in the car and having to shift is a real challenge! Make sure you consider that before making the switch...

ok update on this car im going to go test drive it either tomorrow (monday) or tuesday afternoon. i went to the dealership to get a new resonator welded in and then proceeded to call the dealer a *** that he now has that 5 spd and how unfair they are with trade in so i could never get that car and the whole sob story...so he then ends up asking what i need to pay my loan off i tell him 7K he says "DONE" i was like WHAT!?! he then tells me if i want it that bad he can give me 7K for my car but i cant get more than a couple hundred off the sticker price. so i told him id be back for a test drive. but while waiting for my exhuast to be done he gave me the keys so i could check it out and damn clean clean clean! the engine is imaculant compared to mine its crazy. 5spd feeling good engine runnin good everything checks out on this beast. only problem was i couldnt drive it because i had my daughter with me and forgot to get the car seat out of my car before the guy lifted it so i was stuck in missary just listening to the engine prrr lol. one day soon i WILL test drive and i WILL strike a deal lets all prey for that day so i can become an auto to manual trader and join up on the shift_5spd club
oo how sweet it would be. there is one thing i found wierd about the car though its an se-l and it has no moonroof? and also no leather which i dont really care about anyway i like cloth better but still i thought all se-l's had a moonroof ive never heard of them not but i love looking at those tinted symbols and guages with brighter colored needles and that lovely stickshift...i have a dream and one day soon it will come true -ryan

Since the car does nothing but depreciate, my advice would be to do nothing unless you can put a minimum of 20% down, with 50-60% being more ideal. imho the price of the new car is inflated by at least $1000-1500. So they offer you 1500 more for your trade, then they are not willing to remove the 1000-1500 that they inflated the selling price by. Only advantage to you is whatever sales tax is on 1500, about $75?
It's a bad deal imho.
I agree with Frank Fontaine....you are setting yourself up for failure by getting in the hole.
A car is not a good investment for anything other than just transportation. They will not gain value....esp. if you put thousands of dollars of performance mods on them.
