Ok, I was about to head out for a roadtrip to Rochester NY (about 360mi) and I heard a strange rubbing noise from the front end. Was on the highway for a few minutes and the car was slow, so I realized my caliper was sticking. I limped it to my mechanic and left it over night. I had to take my mom's '91 Park Ave to NY. The mechanic just replaced the brake fluid and bled the brakes.

So I come home yesterday and when I drive to work today, it seems that my tilting steering column no longer tilts the whole way. I think my Dad got frustrated and might have hit the wheel. He called me at about 4am cuz the key wouldn't turn. He later said he was there for like an hour and it turned out he was using the glovebox key.

So, ANYWAY, after driving it, I right away noticed that the brake pedal was much squishier than I remember. Is this normal after bleeding the brakes? I would think that they'd feel firmer if anything. My mechanic is very good, so I have little reason to suspect they did anything incorrectly. Any ideas?

 

Sounds like there maybe air in the lines. I would re-bleed the brakes honestly. Sometimes this happens to the best of mechanics. You think you completely bleed the brakes but out of luck, didn't get all the air out. The only other thing I could think of is a leaky line...but you would notice fluid loss.

My dad is the one who took the car down and picked up. He said they only bled the front system. It kinda made sense cuz the sticky caliper was driver's-front side. The brakes seems to have plenty of power once you get on the pedal, but the strong initial "bite" is gone, which I really liked about these brakes. I gotta go back anyway to get the steering column checked out. I'll check the level before I head out just in case too.

ask them if they had to take off the master cylinder or anything. any time any brake hydraulic line is disconnected, air will get in, and must be re-bled. like sarin said, it's very possible that not all air was bled out. it's kinda hard to tell sometimes.
