newbie questions about C.V. joints...

1997 max GXE

2 hopefully simple questions i would love to get answered. went to autozone to order new left n right CV joints. they wanted to know if it had limited slip, which im pretty sure it doesn't and if i have ABS on it or not. the last one i wasn't so sure about since i've never been in a situation where i would notice it. is there a n easy way to figure this out? maybe decode the VIN or something. 2nd question is ; do i need a front end alignment after installing, it seems to make sense but i'd like to be sure. appreciate the help, thanks

First, yes your car has abs

Second, No it don't have limited slip but to find that out you will look under the hood on the passenger side on the VIN # plate there is something that says Trans axle# if you C a letter V in that line of letters that means you have limited slip if not U don't

Thirdly, Yes you will have to have a front wheel aligment

thats not true. i have the same car and i dont have abs. they dont all have it.

you have to look behind the rotor around the cv joint. there will be a toothed ring, like a gear. if that is there you have abs. if its not there, you dont have it.

pull the fuse in the fuse box that says ABS look at ur dash and if the light comes on u have ABS. I just changed my own half shafts and i haven't had alignment problems. Its usually recommended.
