as much as you may not wont to, drive it and see if that noise is present in all gear, that could help pin point the problem.

Was the car fine the night before then next day making this noise? any other symptons?

I guess I may not have said it right it makes the noise in Neutral and not in any gear. When in neutral it makes the noise, then when in neutral and I push the clutch in the noise goes away, when I let it back out it comes back again.

Once again this is in NEUTRAL

Thank you, any more help would be great.

I just had this same problem. It's like a winding-type noise? It was my bearings. It's the rear main bearing, and some others. They come in a kit. The kit is usually about $150-200. It's about 6-8 hours of labor. Of course while the tranny man was down there he noticed that my clutch was pretty much shot so I he put in a new clutch. The clutch has a throwout bearing also. I negotiated all of this for $1000, and my car runs like it's brand new. It's also very quiet again. If you continue to drive, that sound will get worse and louder. Shoot me back any questions. Good luck man.

Whoa! you need answers ASAP. I was in your position a month ago. I'm sorry but I didn't do the install myself so I don't know the part numbers but I know that it is a kit which has at least two of the main transmission bearings. The shop that did my car originally quoted $200, but I know they are cheaper because he came way down after final negotiations, but that was for the whole job: replace main transmission bearings, replace the clutch with one that is stronger than stock, and do all the labor for $1000 out the door, tax everything. His shop used a Luke racing clutch, they area a local Bay Area clutch manufacturer. Now the car is sooooo smooth, and effortless to shift and way quieter. I'm sure a local dealership would have part numbers on the main transmission bearings kit. Hope this helps man.

man, well thank you anyways for your help. I work for a dealership ( hugh discounts) but not a nissian one i will be putting some time in calling people, but right now im a college student and i dont have alot of money, so im hoping maybe i can find a mechanic that is willing to do the job. I know my clutch is good. How much would it have been without the clutch?

thank you

Probably $700-800. I thought my clutch was good also, I didn't feel any slipping or anything, and I had a Clutchmasters' clutch put in about 65,000 ago. But he showed me the clutch and it was toast. So hopefully your is alright. After friving with the new clutch I realized that my pedal was harder to push down. Now it's nice and easy.
