stock 5th gen muffler on a 4th gen?

hey guys,

My girlfriend drives a 4th gen ('95) and needs a new muffler. I have a stock 2000 muffler siting in my garage and I need to know if it will fit her 4th gen.
Thanks in advance for any help.

yes.
That is what I have. I love the way it sounds and looks.
To make it look right, you might want to consider cutting the hole in the bumper a little wider. It is not necessary to put it on there though, because it hangs a little bit lower than the stock one. Check out my homepage for pics of this.

Did you go look at mine?
If you have any questions about how to properly cut the hole in the bumper to fit this, hit me up on pm. I learned the hard way. The guy I had do it made it a little crooked, as you could see from the pics. I know now what to do.

vipervadim, I don't know if it bolts right up, because I had a custom b-pipe put on there and I just had him weld it to it.
There were no fitment issues though. It uses the same hangers.

@joosdawg:
I wish I could record sound with my camera. It sounds great! Maybe someone can show what it sounds like.

I did that Apparently there was something wrong with the server or something when I tried originally, because it timed out when I tried to save it.

EDIT: Sounds VERY nice! Can't wait to have a setup like that on my car

I want to hear how it would sound with a Full Exhaust setup... Y Pipe and Cat Back... NO RESONATOR!

BTW, where did you order your 5th gen muffler and how much did you pay?

Also, is there a difference in the mufflers... (GXE, GLE, SE) ?

It's got a rattley, buzzy sound with no resonator. I have a W/S Y-pipe, test pipe, custom b-pipe (all 2.5"). Sound like a muffler with some loose baffles or something. Not real bad, but it's not a clean sound.

I'd love to replace my VERY loud stillen muffler for one of these but it's such a pain going to a muffler shot and getting it welded and all, I wish it was a bolt, so I could do it in my driveway.

If all they are putting on is the muffler, I would guess that a place would do it for like $20 or so. I mean, it is not that involved. Most of those places will fluctuate their prices, based on what you want and need.

I paid like $100 shipped for my 5th gen muffler. I got it used from someone here on the .org. I have enjoyed it ever since I got it.

Yes, it is. Although I'd seriously doubt you'd get more than maybe 1 or 2 HP out of it compared to stock.

yeah, but I didn't do the muffler for the hp gain.
I did it for just better looks, IMO, and sound, IMO, and possibly a little gain from opening up the b-pipe a little more.

Wow, is that the 5th gen muffler? It looks terrible IMO. I prefer my stock 99 muffler and B-pipe which are fairly rusted out so I get a nice dirty (but not too loud) growl.

OT: Brudaddy, I just noticed you're 24 and a legal assistant—me too! It sucks but it pays the bills. I can't wait to go to grad school.

What an interesting correlation. 5th Gen muffler on 4th Gen --> Legal Assistant.

I am Legal Assistant as well

yeah, I think it sucks too.
I thought I wanted to go to Law School, so I started working here at Baker Donelson. After doing this for like 3 months, I knew that law school was not for me. This is not what I want to do for very long, but it is a good job and I am steadily looking for something else.

We get that good sound without losing any of the hp out the holes of the rusty pipes. ha ha

hmmmm.....me too.
I love the way that one looks.

I always wanted a 2000 Maxima when they first came out because they had the smoked tails and the oval muffler, etc.....well, instead, I just got the muffler and put it on the maxima I own. ha ha
