Cant start car!

Well I have notices in the past few weeks that there is some sort of a common problem regarding the starting capabilities of the 4th generation maxima. I have been having problems for the past few weeks starting my car.

It takes me 5-8 attempts until the car actually starts. The bettery cranks the starter, however, it does not start up. Most of the time I have to pump some gas to get the car to start. I know that the starter is fine, the battery is o.k, altenator is good, and I replaced the camshaft sensor as well since people suggested to do so.

I am going to check the fule pressure since I have a strong feeling that it is the fuel pump.

I wanted to know any other opinions of what it can be in case the fuel pump is fine, and the above is working .

Thank you

Try checking the "Technical Service Bulletins" on this forum - I've found them to be very useful. There are specific bulletins for no/hard starting that might be helpful.

Well I finsihed checking the fuel pressure, and it was idling at 50 PSI. This is fine, however, I Have a feeling that it is at 50PSI since I have not started my car for 3 days now, and it is running ok. I am going to keep on eye on my fuel pressure gage the next time(s) it gives me trouble again.

My fuel pump died on me. Over a period of weeks, I had difficulty starting the car, and then one day it just wouldn't start.

If you are going to replace the fuel pump, you should go ahead and upgrade to one of the walbro fuel pumps so you can add on a few things without having to go back, and do it again. I hope the fuel pump is all that it is, because it is very easy to replace.

How do you "know" its not the starter?
I just replaced my starter for the second time. I was certain starter was find because I just repalced it a couple of years ago (2-3). I took it out to Pep boys to test it. They checked it and said it was fine. Turns out the starter would crank (spin), but it would not move to engage the flywheel = not a good starter. Point being, recheck your starter...

I was having the exact same problem.
It turned out to be a faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor. It won't trigger the check engine light. Go ahead and replace it and see if it fixes it. Costs around $25 bucks at local parts store.

i've got the same problem, starter cranks the car fine, just wont start up for like 30 seconds or more, some times it starts right away and other times it doesnt, so far i've changed cam sensor, checked plugs, plenty of fuel cuz i can smell it when im trying to start it, swaped starter for a spare one, tested the battery numerous times and checked all conections to and from it, replaced the crank sensor on the bell housing and tomorrow i'll be doing the one on the front of the motor, after that im clueless, car runs fine once it starts, i may try the coolant sensor and posibly the tps might be giving it problems but i havent thrown any kind of fault code. I would think if the fuel pump was on its way out it would give drivability problems especially when it heats up. i dunno though, i hope i can figure it out soon, it just gets worse and worse and you feel like a tool when u cant start your car in front of people...

Another thing to check is the make sure the ECU isnt left in diagnostics mode, if it is then you can run into simular problems I checked mine in a dark parking lot and I couldnt get it out of diagnostics mode.. I had a hell of a time trying to start it, and then when it was started it would stall if it droped under 1000 rpm, just a thought though
