bose units interchangeable?

My Daughter has a 96 SE w/bose.....will any 4th gen bose head unit directly replace hers? In other words, if I get a 99 head unit, will it plug right in and fit the hole in the dash perfectly? or do I need a 95-96 bose unit?

I am considering this as opposed to replacing the WHOLE stereo with standard stuff, but then I'm looking at allot more money than an ebay buy of the newest head unit I can find............AND if anyone HAS a headunit, with low time on it, I might consider buying it......Help please............
Thanks

I believe you should be able to use any bose head unit in her car. You may want to look into replacing her headunit ONLY with an aftermarket unit. Despite what you may have heard, you can use the existing Bose speakers with an aftermarket headunit. They will either have to bypass the Bose speaker amps OR bypass the after market headunit's amp. your choice.

I know it can be done, since I have this in my 96 I30. I have aftermarket headunit with Bose stock speakers and it works great!

Hope this helped.
