Spec Stage 1 and Fidanza

Anyone have this combo? Mine is fully broken in so I've been doing some launches and full-throttle shifts to see how well it holds.

Apparently it doesn't hold very well.

It launches fine but I can't chirp 2nd with my mods. After a redline run or two the 2-3 slips big time. I'm thinking it's the fidanza but there's no way to tell.

Other times I drive around normally and smell the clutch. Yes, I can drive.

Anyone have any experience? I'm ready to go back to stock clutch and flywheel after this thing wears out...

my spec and fidanza combo lasted about 3 months before i pulled it out. I think it was the fidanza causing the issues.

thanks guys...

mine still chatters occasionally too.

at the time it was between spec and exedy, and stupid me thought I should buy one of the lesser known but favorably-reviewed choices to contribute some experience to the org. now we know we should warn people not to buy Spec clutches.

hopefully it'll last for a few more months and then I'll switch it to an Exedy.

just finished putting my exedy stage 1 in a little while ago. feels so much better than the Spec stage 1 did. I will take pictures of the Spec to show you how bad it slipped in the short short time I had it in.

Interesting, I was looking into geting one of the SPEC clutches like the stage four or something but now it looks like I might go with ACT or Exedy. Does anyone know if Exedy makes a high tourqe rated clutch. And if so where to buy it. Thanks

Would an ACT Heavy Duty pressure plate be recommended for a daily driven turbo or an Extreme?

I found a bunch of post in another fourm ant remeber where it is but they had nothing but bad things to say about SPEC clutches they said they slipped and had clutch chatter. There was at least four or five guys saying "No Good"

So maybe that will help I know its changing my tune a bit

From what I have just recently found out the Clutchnet is the way to go unless you are thingking about steaping up to a Exedy Stage II. But everybody has been saying bad things about the SPEC and good things about Exedy and Clutchnet.

not much more info to post. the spec clutch was the worst $300 spent on the max yet.

Well there it is one more person shating on SPEC. This is really not looking good for them. I wonder why they are so crappy.

Just so you all know, my Exedy Stage 1 lasted 7,000 miles then the throw out bearing went bad and cooked my clutch.

I paid double labor to put that thing in too. long story.

If I didn't drive the car hard it would be fine aside from a tiny amount of chatter. but if it's not gonna hold my WOT redline shifts, it kinda defeats the purpose of a performance clutch. I was looking to at least chirp 3rd just so I know I could, but at this point even 2nd is out of the question.

probably leaning towards the exedy stage 2 in case I S/C.

this may not apply to the maximas, but i have a spec stage 3 and fidanza flywheel on my S13. i think the clutches are essentially similar to the 4th gen maximas. the stage 3 is basically a sprung 4 puck clutch. i've had this combo on for over a year and it's still working great (knock on wood). trust me, this clutch takes abuse! drifting heats up the clutch more than anything a normal maxima would ever handle. all i do on my S13 is drift. pedal feel is close to stock, maybe a tiny bit heavier. we'll have to see how it handles having 350whp with a turbo upgrade. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. i bought my clutch, then i started seeing complaints about spec clutches. so it's definately on my mind.

UNCDooD did you end up getting the Exedy through the group deal on here? I'd like to see a pic of that clutch.. pm sent.

VQdriver nice time with the all motor s13! You have a Stage 3, how much did it cost you? How much are you putting down to the wheels?

kenji, my S13 is powered by a turbocharged SR20DET on stock boost. it's probably making somewhere close to 200hp. i forgot how much my spec stage 3 cost. it's definately a few bucks cheaper than the ACT street clutch though.
