does the car die out after you just start up the car and the revs jump then it dies out? does it stay on if you give it some gas immediately when you start it up?

I only ask cause I had this problem a little while back and it turned out to be my engine coolant temp sensor which was cheap and easy to replace!!! mine wasn't pulling a code, but it did fit the nissan FSM as a possible cause to hard starting or staying alive....so I took my multimeter to it and sure enough, the sensor was out of spec...

your idle speed adjuster is located right by the throttle , its a small screw with an 8mm bolt. losen the bolt and turn to the right for higher rpm. check all conections like the mass air sensor and little things like that.

two guesses: Engine coolant temp. sensor. Or have you messed around with your ECU lately? On my 95 the screw on the ECU does not stop turning. If I do not set it correctly when clearring any CEL's, the car will not idle correctly and will shut down....

just try turning the screw a little bit. Then start the car. If that doesn't work, turn the screw a bit the other way and start the car. You can easily rule this possibility out.
