Tokico Springs / Illuminas Question

needed for my '98!

I'm curious if someone can give feed back on Tokico springs. I'm considering the following auction for the Illumina / Springs combo:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33590

My goals are to eliminate the Nissan Maxima 4x4 look, and get a better handling car for everyday driving. I'm hopeful that this combo can eliminate the excessive body roll as well. I am also considering the H&R springs that seem highly touted here, however the eBay auction above is somewhat less expensive than an Illumina / H&R combo.

I wish to know if the Tokico springs are comparable to the H&R's. Why, or why not, and what are the differences in actual ride height, post-installation of course. Also, how is the drop on Tokico's? Is it as advertised?

Thank you

Looking at the same product myself. Check out the awesome write-up by gtr_rider on the News section of the board. https://maxima.org/article6.html There you'll find install instructions and pictures of the setup on two cars. When you find the actual spring rates for the Tokicos, PM me.

The Tokico package is a bit lower then an H&R setup. The Tokico package rides pretty good and handles very well.

H&R's are a German spring, very high quality. They ride fantastic when coupled with the Tokico Illumina struts and handling is excellent as well. The drop gives the Maxima a nice clean finished look, not a slammed or lowered look.

Either setup is very good, but I'd lean more twards the H&R/Illumina setup for very comfy every day driving without worring about a stance that may be too low for some rough roads.

thanks, about to change that final result picture.. looks hideous

As for the topic of this thread, the springs are great even factoring in the expected rough ride of lowering springs. Ive only bottomed out the car once while testing different settings {2/2} on a hard right turn. Ive "track" tested the car on a sweeper turn and got scared before the car could even get close to its limit.

i just bought that exact same kit from that seller last monday. the kit arrived tuesday and I cant wait to get it installed! (maybe this weekend!)

as a helpful side note, i noticed you are in cali too so you have to pay tax. i didnt want to pay the tax so i emailed them asking if they would split it with me and they did. i was out the door for $570. Now thats a deal seeing that the same kit is on custommaxima for $660 plus shipping!

For the same $550, you can get Illumina's and Tein S-Techs. This is what I have on my car. Click on my sig for my homepage and pics. Most even drop out there for the Maxima and has a really nice handling feel to it. Definitely more sporty and light years from stock, but overall a comfortable ride that is asthetically pleasing.

You should see them with the Superleggera's I just put on last night. Pics forthcoming. Dent is getting fixed next Tue so pics will be coming shortly after that.

And, upon measuring, the rear with my S-Tech's only sits between 1/16-1/8 inch higher than the front.

Thank you for all the help, guys. I'm leaning towards the H&R / Illumina set up, I think. I'm afraid the Tokico springs will put the car just a hair too low for my taste. And, it seems as if the ride might be nicer w/ the H&R's. But then, anything will beat the absurd amount of body roll the car has on the stock suspension!

I got the Tokico kit from that same seller, and I'm very happy with it. I got about 1 and 5/8" drop in the front, and 1 and 3/4" in the rear. Ride height is now dead even, and no problems bottoming out. Love the Illuminas! No matter what springs you end up with, these are great shocks!
Have fun.

I'm also looking at that kit as well as the kit with the hp's. Are the illumina's really worth the extra $$$. I'm not worried about adjustability, is the ride comparable, do they both last as long? any info appreciated

I've read numerous postings that suggest Illumina's will be the last set you'll ever buy. The Tokico blues(and presumably other cheaper shocks), while less expensive, are not made for lowering and will blow out in a short time(20k-30k miles?).

In addition, my reseach suggests that Illuminas seem to have no equal in terms of ride comfort & performance (whether adjusted for daily driving or track), and value, in terms of longevity.

Possibly another member can provide a link backing my notion that Illuminas last a very long time.
